About the Role

The Remote Immigration Attorney position at The United Firm offers a unique opportunity for a dedicated and experienced attorney to join a premier law firm with a strong track record in immigration law. As a key member of the immigration team, you will work closely with clients, manage a diverse caseload, and collaborate with colleagues to achieve outstanding results. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include representing clients in removal proceedings, preparing immigration applications, and developing strategic solutions to complex immigration challenges.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of immigration cases, including family-based petitions, humanitarian cases, and detained individual cases. You will also have the chance to develop your skills in areas such as case management, client interaction, and legal analysis.

What You Will Do

  • Represent non-detained and detained individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals
  • Manage a high-volume caseload, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines to ensure timely and effective representation
  • Prepare and submit diverse immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based immigration petitions
  • Conduct intake interviews with detained individuals at centers and develop strategic plans for their cases
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community-based organizations to stay up-to-date on changes in immigration law and policy
  • Develop and implement effective case management systems to track progress and ensure compliance with deadlines
  • Provide legal analysis and strategic advice to clients, determining the best course of action for their cases
  • Prepare and submit legal briefs for a variety of immigration cases, including appeals and motions
  • Meet with potential clients for strategic immigration consultations and determine necessary strategy

What We Are Looking For

  • At least 3-5 years of experience in immigration law, with a strong track record of success in representing clients in removal proceedings and other immigration matters
  • Admission to the bar in Puerto Rico, with a strong understanding of Puerto Rico law and procedure
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop creative solutions to complex immigration challenges
  • Experience with family-based petitions, humanitarian cases, and detained individual cases, with a strong understanding of the relevant laws and procedures
  • Ability to manage a high-volume caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues in both languages

Nice to Have

  • Experience with case management software, with the ability to leverage technology to streamline workflows and improve efficiency
  • Knowledge of EOIR, USCIS, and other relevant immigration laws and procedures, with the ability to stay up-to-date on changes and developments in the field
  • Experience working with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community-based organizations, with the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex immigration concepts to clients and other stakeholders
