About the Role
The Institutional Portfolio Strategy Consultant role is a remote, part-time consulting opportunity that leverages the expertise of experienced investment professionals to support current and upcoming consulting projects. This role is pivotal in helping 24-MAG's clients navigate the complexities of portfolio management, asset allocation, and risk management. Day-to-day responsibilities will involve reviewing and analyzing investment scenarios, evaluating portfolio strategies, and providing clear, evidence-based recommendations.As a key member of the consulting team, the successful candidate will work closely with clients to understand their investment goals, risk tolerance, and existing portfolio compositions. They will apply their expertise to identify areas of improvement, optimize portfolio performance, and develop comprehensive investment strategies that align with clients' objectives.
The role is highly autonomous, with the consultant working remotely to deliver high-quality outputs that meet the needs of 24-MAG's clients. Strong communication and project management skills are essential, as the consultant will need to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks effectively, and meet deadlines.
What You Will Do
- Review and analyze investment scenarios to evaluate portfolio construction, asset allocation, and risk-adjusted return objectives
- Evaluate portfolio strategies against stated mandates, allocation constraints, market assumptions, and documented investment goals
- Support structured review of multi-asset portfolios, sector exposures, position sizing, rebalancing logic, and allocation decisions
- Identify missing assumptions, concentration issues, risk exposures, and expected portfolio management outcomes
- Develop and maintain risk management frameworks involving drawdown analysis, volatility, factor exposure, liquidity considerations, correlation assumptions, and stress-test scenarios
- Prepare clear written explanations for portfolio strategy decisions based on source materials and verifiable criteria
- Evaluate investment strategies across changing market environments, macro drivers, and asset class dynamics
- Support structured review of risk controls, scenario analysis, hedging considerations, and portfolio optimization outputs
- Contribute real-world portfolio management insight to structured evaluation and strategy review workflows
- Maintain accuracy, consistency, and professional judgment across submitted work
What We Are Looking For
- 8+ years of experience in investment management, asset management, wealth management, institutional investing, hedge funds, private wealth, family office investing, or related investment roles
- 5+ years of experience as a portfolio manager, co-portfolio manager, investment strategist, senior investment analyst, asset allocator, or similar decision-making role
- Experience managing institutional, HNW, family office, multi-asset, equity, fixed income, alternative, or global portfolios
- Strong understanding of portfolio optimization, risk management, alpha generation, asset allocation, market dynamics, and macro drivers
- Comfort reading and preparing investment artifacts such as portfolio strategy notes, allocation memos, risk reports, stress-test summaries, investment committee materials, and market outlooks
- Strong written communication skills and ability to explain portfolio decisions clearly
- Ability to follow structured instructions and produce evidence-based work
- A degree or professional background in finance, economics, accounting, business administration, mathematics, statistics, investment management, or a related quantitative field

- CFA, MBA, CAIA, FRM, or equivalent investment management credential
