About the Role

The Remote IP Coder position at Kettering Health is a full-time, remote opportunity for a skilled Health Information Management professional to join their team. As a Remote IP Coder, you will be responsible for accurately selecting the principal diagnosis and procedure, as well as secondary diagnoses and procedures, using coding references and guidelines. You will work closely with the healthcare team to evaluate the quality of documentation and identify incomplete or inconsistent information that may affect coding, abstracting, and charging.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with clinical data systems, such as 3M and Epic, and be knowledgeable about medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as you will be collaborating with healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and efficient coding practices.

What You Will Do

  • Accurately select the principal diagnosis and procedure, as well as secondary diagnoses and procedures, using coding references and guidelines
  • Evaluate the quality of documentation to identify incomplete or inconsistent information that may affect coding, abstracting, and charging
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and efficient coding practices
  • Utilize clinical data systems, such as 3M and Epic, to manage and analyze patient data
  • Consistently follow coding guidelines and compliance plans to ensure regulatory adherence
  • Identify and monitor charging errors to reduce loss of revenue and ensure accurate reimbursement
  • Coordinate and perform activities associated with processing and correcting rejected accounts
  • Maintain certification and demonstrate up-to-date job knowledge

What We Are Looking For

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management
  • RHIT, RHIA, or CCS certification
  • One to two years of coding/abstracting experience in an acute care hospital with RHIT or RHIA certification
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in data entry and personal computers
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
  • Experience with clinical data systems, such as 3M and Epic

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in a remote environment
