About the Role
The Remote Safety Director position at Compass Group USA is a strategic leadership role focused on cultivating a safety-first culture across the organization. This involves driving organizational excellence in health, safety, and risk mitigation. The successful candidate will provide expert leadership, proactive risk management, and hands-on operational support to reduce workplace injuries, minimize claims, and ensure regulatory compliance.As a key member of the team, the Remote Safety Director will lead safety initiatives through daily engagement, coaching, training, and continuous improvement. This will involve partnering closely with operational leaders, frontline teams, and the Director of Safety & Health to achieve safety goals. Although this position has no direct reports, it influences safety performance through strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration.
The role requires up to 40% travel, which is integral to conducting comprehensive facility inspections, analyzing injury and claims data, and implementing corrective strategies to improve safety performance. The Remote Safety Director will be the point of contact for customer concerns related to health and safety, ensuring prompt and professional responses.
What You Will Do
- Analyze injury and claims data to identify trends and develop targeted action plans to reduce financial impact.
- Prioritize units with rising injury rates and implement corrective strategies to improve performance.
- Leverage financial and workers’ compensation reporting to determine focus areas and resource allocation.
- Respond promptly and professionally to customer concerns related to health and safety.
- Facilitate Contractor Orientation classes to ensure compliance and safe onboarding of third-party partners.
- Conduct comprehensive facility inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA, state, federal, and Compass/Eurest standards.
- Provide written reports, recommendations, and follow-up actions to management.
- Support ongoing safety awareness and incentive programs to reinforce safe behaviors.
- Partner with Compass Risk Management to enhance loss prevention and control programs.
- Deliver training to promote safe work practices, regulatory compliance, and injury prevention.
- Lead safety meetings, presentations, and conference calls to reinforce expectations and share best practices.
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Risk Management, or a related field.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret data and develop effective safety strategies.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to influence safety performance across the organization.
- Experience with OSHA regulations and compliance standards.
- Ability to travel up to 40% of the time.
- Proficiency in Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- Experience in a similar safety director role, preferably in a corporate facilities management setting.
- Strong problem-solving skills to address safety concerns and implement corrective actions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
