Job Description

About the Role

The Senior Controls Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing control systems for various applications, ensuring efficient and safe operation. This role will involve working closely with a team of engineers, technicians, and project managers to deliver complex projects. As a key member of the Systems Integration team, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, from concept to completion, and contribute to the company's growth and success.

The role will involve around 25% domestic travel, allowing the candidate to work on-site with clients and collaborate with other specialists. With a strong focus on safety, the candidate will be responsible for ensuring that control systems are designed and implemented in a safe manner, and may be required to implement safety protocols and procedures.

What You Will Do

  • Design, develop, and implement control systems for various applications, including network architecture, cause and effect diagrams, and control philosophy
  • Utilize knowledge of control theory, automation, and programming to create efficient and reliable systems
  • Program and configure Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), and other control devices
  • Develop and implement control algorithms and software, using graphical programming languages like Ladder Logic and Function Block Diagram (FBD)
  • Test and validate control systems to ensure they meet performance requirements
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose control system issues, and implement solutions to improve system performance and reliability
  • Install, configure, and test software systems on-site, ensuring they function according to specifications and customer needs
  • Evaluate system performance and identify areas for improvement, implementing solutions to increase production efficiency and reduce downtime
  • Collaborate with other engineers, technicians, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes
  • Communicate technical information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in control systems and startup/commissioning, with management experience
  • Strong understanding of control theory, automation, and programming, with the ability to identify, analyze, and solve complex problems
  • Experience with industrial control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems
  • Strong programming skills, including proficiency in languages like C++, Java, and Python
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex systems and identify areas for improvement

Nice to Have

  • Experience with specific control systems, such as Allen-Bradley or Siemens
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures, including NFPA 79 and IEC 61508
  • Experience with project management tools, such as Asana or Trello
