About the Role
The Removal Defense Paralegal position at Dalal & Mehta Law Firm is a critical role that supports the firm's attorneys in managing removal defense cases. This position requires a highly organized and detail-oriented individual who can work independently in a remote environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in immigration law, specifically in removal defense, and be proficient in using tools like Excel and EOIR's ECAS portal.As a Removal Defense Paralegal, you will be part of a team dedicated to providing exceptional legal representation to immigrants and their families. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include managing removal defense cases from intake through final adjudication, maintaining accurate case records, and tracking deadlines. You will also coordinate with clients to gather documents and evidence, ensuring that all filings are submitted timely and accurately.
The firm is looking for someone who can not only manage cases efficiently but also communicate effectively with clients, often in multiple languages. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple cases simultaneously is essential.
What You Will Do
- Manage removal defense cases from intake through final adjudication
- Maintain accurate case records in Docketwise and firm systems
- Track deadlines, court dates, biometrics appointments, and filing deadlines
- Coordinate document collection and evidence gathering from clients
- Log into and navigate EOIR ECAS, uploading filings, exhibits, and supporting evidence
- Monitor court notices and updates, downloading and organizing EOIR correspondence and court documents
- Prepare attorney-reviewed drafts of documents and applications, including EOIR-42B, Form I-589, U-Visa Applications, and Employment Authorization Applications
- Draft motions, cover letters, exhibit indexes, and supporting documentation
- Prepare cases for Individual Hearings and Master Calendar Hearings, organizing evidence packets and exhibit binders
- Conduct client follow-ups and document requests, maintaining regular communication with clients regarding case progress
- Assist clients with gathering evidence and supporting documentation, providing exceptional client service and professionalism
What We Are Looking For
- At least 1-2 years of experience in immigration law, preferably in removal defense
- Experience using EOIR's ECAS portal and understanding Immigration Court filing procedures
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment and manage multiple cases simultaneously
- Ability to communicate professionally with clients in at least one of the following languages: English, Spanish, Hindi
- Experience with cloud-based document management systems and legal and client management software
Nice to Have
- Experience preparing EOIR-42B applications
- Familiarity with USCIS, ICE, and Immigration Court procedures
- Experience with Docketwise or similar CRM systems
- Certification in immigration law or a related field
