About the Role

As a Research and Development Scientist at mercor, you will be at the forefront of AI research, working on challenging real-world physics problems. What You Will Do

  • Design and prepare physics problems for model evaluation, including detailed problem statements and golden solutions
  • Evaluate model performance on tasks to identify reasoning and derivation failures
  • Analyze model trajectories to extract core capability loss patterns
  • Work independently to meet deadlines and improve model performance
  • Collaborate with team members to discuss and refine model development
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of physics subfields and their applications
  • Create clear, rigorous, and well-structured physics problems and solutions
  • Engage reliably for 8+ hours/week to ensure consistent progress
  • Participate in discussions and meetings to share knowledge and best practices

What We Are Looking For

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a PhD program in Physics or a related field
  • Deep expertise in physics subfields with strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Ability to write clear, rigorous, and well-structured physics problems and solutions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and asynchronously
