About the Role

The Research and Quality Abstractor plays a vital role in supporting cardiovascular clinical research studies, quality improvement initiatives, and outcomes research at Cardiovascular Associates of America. This independent contractor position requires a highly skilled individual with experience in chart abstraction, data management, and quality assurance. The successful candidate will work closely with investigators, research coordinators, and project managers to ensure data completeness, accuracy, and integrity. As a key member of the research team, the Research and Quality Abstractor will be responsible for abstracting clinical data from electronic health records, conducting source data verification, and performing data validation checks. This role demands strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work independently in a remote setting. Reporting to the Chief Quality & Research Officer, the Research and Quality Abstractor will be expected to maintain detailed documentation supporting abstraction decisions, adhere to Good Clinical Practice standards, and participate in data quality and completeness audits.

What You Will Do

  • Abstract clinical data from electronic health records, including imaging reports, physician documentation, laboratory results, and procedure reports
  • Collaborate with investigators, research coordinators, project managers, and analysts to ensure data completeness, accuracy, and integrity
  • Conduct source data verification and quality assurance reviews
  • Perform data validation checks and participate in data quality and completeness audits
  • Identify missing, inconsistent, or conflicting clinical information and resolve discrepancies through comprehensive review of source documentation
  • Maintain detailed documentation supporting abstraction decisions
  • Adhere to Good Clinical Practice standards
  • Support internal quality programs and external reporting requirements
  • Assist with data collection for accreditation, benchmarking, registry participation, and performance improvement initiatives

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three or more years of chart abstraction experience
  • Proficiency with EHR systems
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and data management skills
  • Experience with REDCap, clinical trial databases, registry platforms, or quality reporting systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information

Nice to Have

  • Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or other clinical background
  • Experience reviewing cardiovascular patient records
  • Experience working in cardiology, cardiovascular imaging, or cardiovascular research environments
