About the Role

The Revenue Accountant position at Dropbox is a critical component of the Order to Cash accounting team, responsible for delivering accurate and timely financial results while supporting a collaborative team culture. As a key member of this team, you will play a pivotal role in revenue accounting operations, including supporting the monthly close and quarterly reporting processes, ensuring compliance with accounting policies, and maintaining effective internal controls. Your expertise will be essential in driving process improvements as Dropbox continues to grow and evolve.

Day-to-day, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Sales, Marketing, Finance, and Engineering, to support and scale revenue programs. This will involve taking ownership of the accounting for emerging initiatives, Sales Compensation, and Market Development Funds (MDF) programs, ensuring accurate and timely recognition in accordance with accounting policies. Your technical accounting skills will be utilized to develop conclusions in these areas, ensuring programs are accounted for in compliance with relevant accounting guidance.

The Revenue Accountant will report to the Revenue Manager and collaborate closely with stakeholders across the organization, which may require light travel to meet with internal team members. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the company's financial operations and influence scalable accounting processes.

What You Will Do

  • Support the monthly and quarterly close processes, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, flux analysis, and financial reporting deliverables within areas of ownership.
  • Own accounting for outbound revenue programs, including emerging programs, Sales Compensation, and Market Development Funds (MDF), ensuring accurate and timely recognition in accordance with accounting policies.
  • Evaluate and document technical accounting conclusions in accordance with ASC 606 and ASC 340 for new and evolving go-to-market initiatives.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, Finance, Engineering, and Channel teams to understand program design, provide accounting guidance, and thoughtfully evaluate program structures to ensure appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Develop and maintain effective internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial data and compliance with accounting policies.
  • Collaborate with the Revenue Manager to identify areas for process improvements and implement changes to drive efficiency and scalability.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in accounting standards and regulatory requirements, applying this knowledge to ensure compliance and best practices.
  • Support the development of financial reports and analyses to inform business decisions, including monthly and quarterly financial results.
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives as needed, such as financial system implementations or process automation efforts.

What We Are Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience in revenue accounting or a related field, preferably in the tech industry.
  • Strong technical accounting skills, with expertise in US GAAP and ASC 606.
  • Proficiency in Salesforce and Excel, with experience in financial reporting and analysis.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience with financial close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of internal controls and compliance requirements, with experience in evaluating and implementing effective controls.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with cloud-based financial management systems, such as NetSuite or Workday.
  • Certification in accounting, such as CPA or CMA.
  • Experience in the software as a service (SaaS) industry.
  • Knowledge of data analytics tools, such as Tableau or Power BI.
