About the Role

The Revenue Accountant role at Dropbox is a critical component of the company's financial operations, responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely recognition of revenue. As a key member of the Order to Cash accounting team, you will play a vital part in delivering financial results and supporting a collaborative team culture. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Sales, Marketing, Finance, and Engineering, to drive process improvements and scale revenue programs.

The Revenue Accountant will primarily support Dropbox's outbound business, taking ownership of the accounting for emerging initiatives, Sales Compensation, and Market Development Funds (MDF) programs. You will develop technical accounting conclusions in these areas and ensure programs are accounted for in compliance with relevant accounting guidance. This role offers the opportunity to partner cross-functionally and take ownership of the accounting for key business programs, while influencing scalable accounting processes and exploring the use of AI and automation to enhance accounting workflows.

What You Will Do

  • Support the monthly and quarterly close processes, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, flux analysis, and financial reporting deliverables within areas of ownership
  • Own accounting for outbound revenue programs, including emerging programs, Sales Compensation, and Market Development Funds (MDF), ensuring accurate and timely recognition in accordance with accounting policies
  • Evaluate and document technical accounting conclusions in accordance with ASC 606 and ASC 340 for new and evolving go-to-market initiatives
  • Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, Finance, Engineering, and Channel teams to understand program design, provide accounting guidance, and thoughtfully evaluate program structures to ensure appropriate accounting treatment
  • Develop and maintain effective internal controls to ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with the Revenue Manager and other stakeholders to drive process improvements and identify areas for automation
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in accounting standards and regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance and minimizing risk
  • Prepare and review financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
  • Provide technical accounting support for ad-hoc projects and initiatives as needed
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new accounting policies and procedures

What We Are Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience in revenue accounting or a related field, with a strong foundation in accounting principles and standards
  • Proficiency in Salesforce and Excel, with experience in financial reporting and analysis
  • Strong understanding of accounting policies and procedures, including ASC 606 and ASC 340
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Experience with financial planning and analysis, including budgeting and forecasting
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate risks
  • Experience with internal controls and compliance, including SOX and financial reporting requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field, with a CPA or equivalent certification preferred

  • Experience with automation tools and technologies, such as robotic process automation (RPA) or machine learning (ML)
  • Knowledge of cloud-based accounting systems and financial planning software
  • Experience with data visualization tools, such as Tableau or Power BI
