About the Role

The Risk Standards Strategist role at Stripe is a critical position that entails developing and implementing risk strategies to enable business growth while minimizing risk. As a member of the Ecosystem Risk Strategy Team, you will work closely with cross-functional partners to monitor and mitigate risk related to card network rules and BIN sponsor requirements. The team's primary focus is on Stripe's positioning and standards within the broader payments and risk ecosystem, including card network supportability, industry-body engagement, and regulatory horizon scanning.

The role requires a deep understanding of risk management, digital payments, and strategic planning. You will be responsible for driving risk strategy for company-level strategic initiatives, performing research and analysis to assess Stripe's current risk performance, and developing long-term strategic plans for future growth. Your expertise will be crucial in enabling user onboarding to safely grow at scale, optimizing for efficiency and effectiveness, and providing a positive user experience.

What You Will Do

  • Drive risk strategy for company-level strategic initiatives, partnering with Stripe's product, legal, operations, sales, and partnerships teams
  • Perform research and analysis to assess Stripe's current risk performance and develop long-term strategic plans for future growth
  • Enable user onboarding to safely grow at scale, continuously optimizing for efficiency and effectiveness
  • Challenge the status quo and provide multiple alternative solutions and key execution criteria
  • Represent Stripe in external engagements with critical partners and customers
  • Execute special projects/ad hoc analyses as initiatives, products, risks, and opportunities evolve
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to monitor and mitigate risk related to card network rules and BIN sponsor requirements
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including Risk Partnerships, Credit, Legal, Fraud, and other teams

What We Are Looking For

  • 8+ years of professional experience, preferably in Financial Services, Payments, or fintech industries
  • Experience in a related role (risk, compliance, and/or product enablement)
  • Experience in developing risk strategies and solutions and working with technical (product and engineering) and operations teams to implement them
  • Ability to distill complex, ambiguous risk and policy problems into clear, concise, and reliable guidance
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and outside the box
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Strong understanding of risk management principles and practices, with the ability to apply them in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and engage with internal and external stakeholders to enable business growth while balancing risk

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Knowledge of card network rules and BIN sponsor requirements
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards for risk management
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization tools, such as Tableau or Power BI
