Job Description

About the Role

The RN, Quality Assurance role at the University of Rochester is a unique opportunity for a nursing professional to leverage their clinical expertise and analytical skills to drive quality improvement in cardiac and vascular care. As a key member of the quality assurance team, this individual will work closely with various stakeholders, including the Hospital Quality Office, Department of Medicine/Surgery Quality Teams, and providers/staff from the Division, to identify opportunities for clinical safety and quality improvement. The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in data analysis, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

The role entails working with national and state cardiac/vascular registry data, performing meticulous chart reviews, and entering clinical data into quality databases to identify opportunities for improved outcomes. The candidate will also participate in root cause analyses, develop project work-plans using Quality Improvement principles, and lead multidisciplinary teams on quality improvement initiatives. This position offers flexible hours, does not require nights/weekends/holidays, and allows for partially remote work from home.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as the primary internal contact for national and state cardiac/vascular registry data management questions, issues, or concerns
  • Concurrently and retrospectively review medical records and data to identify patient care, process, and system issues related to the care of cardiac/vascular patients
  • Analyze reports and clinical data to identify trends impacting quality outcomes
  • Work closely with the Hospital Quality Office, Department of Medicine/Surgery Quality Teams, and providers/staff from the Division to identify opportunities for clinical safety and quality improvement
  • Develop project work-plans using Quality Improvement principles
  • Participate in root cause analyses and create required documents as needed
  • Complete audits on patient records and clinical documentation for quality purposes
  • Assist with work related to the Quality Collaboratives the Department is involved in
  • Serve as a liaison to outpatient clinics
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams on quality improvement initiatives
  • Lead and facilitate Division Morbidity and Mortality Conferences in collaboration with the Physician QAL

What We Are Looking For

  • Current RN licensure in the state of New York
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in quality assurance, quality improvement, or a related field
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with quality improvement initiatives and data analysis
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks

Nice to Have

  • Certification in Quality Improvement (CPI) or a related field
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMRs) and other hospital databases
  • Knowledge of current trends, issues, and research in Quality Improvement
  • Experience with project management and team leadership
