Safety Transparency Editor, Safety Systems

About the Role

The Safety Transparency Editor will play a critical role in Openai's Safety Systems team, responsible for developing and communicating the company's technical safety work to external audiences. This will involve working closely with various stakeholders, including researchers, evaluators, and policy experts, to create clear, precise explanations of complex safety topics. The successful candidate will be a skilled editor and writer, able to navigate the nuances of technical communication and produce high-quality content that meets the needs of diverse audiences.

As a key member of the Safety Systems team, the Safety Transparency Editor will be responsible for shaping the narrative thread of technical safety topics, identifying key details, and determining where additional context or explanation is needed. This will involve collaborating with internal teams to gather information, develop content, and review drafts for accuracy and clarity.

The Safety Transparency Editor will also be expected to leverage AI tools and workflows to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the content creation process. This may involve developing new workflows, automating repetitive tasks, and creating systems that enable the organization to produce high-quality transparency artifacts at scale and speed.

What You Will Do

• Serve as the narrative driver behind system cards and related transparency materials, partnering with internal teams to develop and review content
• Write clear, precise explanations of highly technical safety topics for external audiences, without sacrificing rigor or accuracy
• Develop and maintain a deep understanding of Openai's technical safety work, including evaluations, safeguards, and deployment decisions
• Collaborate with researchers, evaluators, and policy experts to gather information and develop content
• Use AI tools and workflows to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the content creation process
• Identify opportunities to build workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and create systems that enable the organization to produce high-quality transparency artifacts at scale and speed
• Partner with communications teams to develop and implement a content strategy that meets the needs of diverse audiences
• Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the company's safety measures and uncertainties, and be able to communicate these effectively to external audiences
• Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in AI safety and transparency, and be able to apply this knowledge to the role

What We Are Looking For

• A skilled editor and writer, with experience in communicating complex technical information to diverse audiences
• A deep understanding of AI safety and transparency, including evaluations, safeguards, and deployment decisions
• Experience working with AI tools and workflows, including content creation and automation
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders
• A strong attention to detail, with the ability to review and edit content for accuracy and clarity
• Experience developing and maintaining complex content systems, including workflows and automation
• A bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as communications, journalism, or computer science
• At least 5 years of experience in a related field, such as technical writing, editing, or content creation
