About the Role

The Sales Manager, Startups role at OpenAI is a unique opportunity to lead a team of sales professionals in driving the adoption of AI technology among startups. As a key member of the Go To Market team, you will be responsible for developing and executing sales strategies that help startups harness the power of OpenAI's APIs. This role requires a deep understanding of AI technology, sales leadership experience, and the ability to adapt to a complex and fast-changing environment.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for AI and its potential to drive innovation and growth. They will be customer-centric, with a strong ability to understand the needs and priorities of startup customers and develop tailored solutions to meet those needs. They will also be a strategic thinker, able to analyze market trends and identify opportunities for growth and expansion.

The Sales Manager, Startups role is based in San Francisco, CA, and offers a hybrid work model with 3 days in the office per week. OpenAI provides relocation assistance to new employees and a comprehensive benefits package.

What You Will Do

  • Lead a team of sales professionals in developing and executing sales strategies for startup customers
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key startup customers and partners
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, marketing, and developer relations, to drive sales and growth
  • Analyze market trends and identify opportunities for growth and expansion
  • Develop and execute complex deal strategies to drive revenue growth
  • Manage and forecast consumption revenue
  • Serve as an advocate for improving the startup experience with OpenAI
  • Monitor the industry landscape and contribute to product roadmap and corporate strategies
  • Support the recruitment and onboarding of new team members
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of OpenAI's products and services

What We Are Looking For

  • 8+ years of sales leadership experience, preferably in the startup ecosystem
  • Deep understanding of AI technology and its applications
  • Experience selling platform-as-a-service and/or software-as-a-service at a product-led growth company
  • Proven track record of driving revenue growth and expanding customer relationships
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adapt to a complex and fast-changing environment
  • Experience working with startups and understanding their unique needs and challenges
