About the Role

The Sales & Use Tax Paraprofessional II role at WithumSmith+Brown is a key position within the Tax Services Group. As a member of this team, you will be responsible for managing sales tax compliance and audit engagements for a diverse range of clients. This will involve supervising and reviewing sales and use tax compliance work, including monthly, quarterly, and annual returns across multiple jurisdictions. You will also be responsible for overseeing nexus analyses, taxability determinations, and registration requirements for new and existing clients.

As a Sales & Use Tax Paraprofessional II, you will be working closely with other members of the team, including CPAs and industry leaders, to deliver high-quality services to clients.

What You Will Do

  • Supervise and review sales and use tax compliance work, including monthly, quarterly, and annual returns across multiple jurisdictions
  • Oversee nexus analyses, taxability determinations, and registration requirements for new and existing clients
  • Review exemption certificate processes, resale documentation, and exemption applicability by state
  • Manage and prioritize team workflows to ensure deadlines, accuracy, and service-level expectations are met
  • Serve as a technical resource for staff, providing guidance on complex taxability issues, sourcing rules, and state-specific regulations
  • Review workpapers, reconciliations, and filings for technical accuracy and completeness prior to submission
  • Handle client communications related to compliance questions, notices, and ongoing advisory needs
  • Assist with audit support, including document requests, auditor correspondence, and resolution of assessments
  • Draft or review penalty abatement requests, voluntary disclosure agreements, and state correspondence
  • Support technology implementations and assist with tax engine mapping and troubleshooting
  • Monitor changes in sales and use tax laws and regulations and communicate impacts to the team and clients

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • Licensed CPA, or working towards CPA certification with parts passed
  • At least 4 years of public accounting experience
  • Exceptional client service and communication skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships
  • Strong technical skills, including proficiency in Excel
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to review work for technical accuracy and completeness
