About the Role
The Semantic Data Engineer will play a critical role in supporting the development and maintenance of a complex platform built around RDF data models, SPARQL queries, and structured datasets. As a key member of the team, you will work closely with backend engineers and architects to understand, maintain, and evolve the semantic layer of the system. This role is ideal for a specialist who enjoys data modeling, semantics, and knowledge representation in real-world production systems.The successful candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a remote team environment. You will be responsible for analyzing and maintaining RDF/TTL data models and vocabularies, developing and optimizing SPARQL queries, and supporting data ingestion, transformation, and validation workflows.
What You Will Do
- Analyze and maintain RDF/TTL data models and vocabularies
- Develop, optimize, and maintain SPARQL queries
- Support data ingestion, transformation, and validation workflows
- Ensure consistency and correctness of semantic data across the platform
- Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate semantic logic into application flows
- Assist in documenting semantic models, assumptions, and constraints
- Participate in troubleshooting data quality and reasoning issues
- Work closely with the development team to identify and prioritize project requirements
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in semantic data engineering
What We Are Looking For
- 3+ years of experience working with semantic or data-centric systems
- Strong knowledge of RDF, RDFS, OWL, and SPARQL
- Experience with knowledge graphs or semantic interoperability platforms
- Data modeling and ontology design skills
- Comfortable working with structured data formats: TTL, XML, JSON, CSV
- Ability to analyze existing models and understand implicit domain logic
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Experience working in a remote team environment
Nice to Have
- Experience with triplestores or graph databases
- Familiarity with EU data standards or interoperability frameworks
- Python scripting for data processing and/or Apache Airflow
