Senior AI Developer

About the Role

The team you will be working with consists of experienced backend and frontend engineers, ML specialists, and UX/UI designers. Together, you will collaborate to design and implement backend services that integrate large language models (LLMs), retrieval systems, and external APIs into a seamless educational experience. Your expertise in AI development will be instrumental in defining and refining how AI behaves in the product, ensuring that it provides the best possible learning experience for students.

Given the nature of this role, you will have the opportunity to work fully remotely and enjoy professional freedom with minimal micromanagement. This setup allows for dynamic collaboration using digital tools like Miro, Notion, and Google Workspace.

What You Will Do

• Design and implement backend services that integrate LLMs, retrieval systems, and external APIs into a seamless educational experience.
• Build and ship AI-driven features that personalize the learning experience for thousands of students.
• Prototype and validate new AI-powered features, then evolve successful experiments into scalable, production-grade systems.
• Define and refine how AI behaves in the product, from context construction and tool usage to evaluation and monitoring.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful integration of AI-powered features into the learning experience.
• Develop and maintain large language models and their applications within the educational context.
• Ensure the reliability, performance, and cost-effectiveness of AI features.
• Work closely with ML specialists and engineers to optimize AI model performance and integrate them into the product.
• Participate in the development of the product roadmap, focusing on AI-driven features and their potential impact on student learning outcomes.

What We Are Looking For

• Experience working with LLMs and external AI APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral, etc.).
• Ability to orchestrate calls, manage context, caching, and prompt logic.
• Familiarity with RAG-like patterns, embeddings, and vector databases to support retrieval-based personalization.
• Strong backend engineering skills, with solid experience in Python (FastAPI) or a similar backend stack.
• Understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and cloud deployment.
• Ability to translate product goals into robust AI features, balancing performance, reliability, and cost.
• Comfort moving fast, experimenting, and iterating with cross-functional teams.
• Experience setting up monitoring, logging, and fallback strategies for production AI services.
• Product mindset and understanding of how to integrate AI features into a seamless user experience.

Nice to Have

• Experience with frameworks like LangChain, LlamaIndex.
• Experience building conversational or agentic systems.
• Knowledge of educational technology and the challenges of integrating AI into learning systems.
• Certification in AI development or a related field.
