Job Description

About the Role

The Senior AI Enforcement Analyst role is pivotal in Reddit's Safety Enforcement Team, focusing on the development and implementation of AI-driven enforcement systems to ensure the safety and authenticity of the platform. As a founding member of this initiative, you will play a crucial role in translating policy intent into actionable models that can effectively distinguish between contextual debate and policy violations. This is a unique opportunity to leverage your expertise in Trust and Safety to make a tangible impact on the user experience.

Reddit's commitment to community and open conversation makes this role particularly challenging and rewarding. The platform is home to over 100,000 active communities, each with its own nuances and sensitivities. The successful candidate will need to balance the need for safety with the importance of preserving the authenticity and openness that define Reddit.

The role reports to the Safety Enforcement Team lead and will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Product, ML Engineering, and Policy to ensure that enforcement systems are effective, ethical, and resilient.

What You Will Do

  • Own Automated Enforcement Quality: Serve as the strategic owner for enforcement outcomes across AI-driven systems, diagnosing underperformance and making recommendations on model readiness for production.
  • Translate Policy Into Models: Craft prompts, define evaluation criteria, and curate high-quality datasets to teach models to distinguish between contextual debate and policy violations.
  • Guide Model Evolution: Monitor enforcement performance over time, identifying concept drift, policy changes, or emerging threats that require model updates or evaluation redesign.
  • Surface Blind Spots: Develop monitoring strategies for niche communities, edge cases, and emerging behaviors to ensure enforcement systems reflect Reddit's diversity and complexity.
  • Safeguard Model Integrity: Flag risks, escalate incidents, and recommend mitigations when automated systems fall below quality or safety thresholds, in partnership with ML and Product stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with ML Engineers: Work closely with ML Engineers to design, develop, and deploy AI models that meet safety and policy requirements.
  • Develop and Maintain Documentation: Ensure that all processes, models, and datasets are well-documented for transparency and ease of maintenance.
  • Stay Updated on Policy Changes: Keep abreast of policy updates and changes, adapting enforcement strategies as necessary to ensure compliance.
  • Participate in Cross-Functional Teams: Engage with various teams to ensure that safety and policy considerations are integrated into product development and platform changes.

What We Are Looking For

  • 5-7+ years of experience in Trust & Safety, with hands-on exposure to automated or scaled enforcement systems.
  • Strong AI literacy, with the ability to leverage automation responsibly at scale.
  • Experience in translating policy intent into actionable models for AI-driven systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose complex issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on collaboration and mutual support.
  • Familiarity with machine learning principles and their application in safety contexts.
  • Understanding of the ethical implications of AI in safety enforcement and a commitment to responsible AI practices.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with natural language processing (NLP) and its applications in content moderation.
  • Knowledge of data annotation and labeling best practices for machine learning models.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and version control systems like Git.
  • Experience working with cloud-based technologies and containerization (e.g., Docker).
  • Certification in machine learning, AI, or a related field.

Benefits and Perks

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Opportunity to work on a high-impact project that influences the safety and experience of hundreds of millions of users.
  • Collaborative and dynamic work environment with a team of experienced professionals.
  • Professional development opportunities, including training and education support.
  • Flexible working hours and remote work arrangements.
  • Access to the latest technologies and tools in AI and machine learning.

  • Stay updated on the latest in machine learning and NLP: The field is rapidly evolving, and demonstrating your commitment to staying current can be a significant plus.
  • Prepare examples of your problem-solving skills: Be ready to discuss specific instances where you had to diagnose and solve complex problems, ideally in a fast-paced environment.
