About the Role
The Senior Associate, Anti-Tax Evasion Compliance, plays a crucial role in Coinbase's Central Compliance team, focusing on implementing and executing controls to mitigate ATE risk. This involves collaborating on ATE projects, advising on risk, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The role reports to the Head of Anti-Bribery & Anti-Tax Evasion Compliance and requires a proactive and positive attitude, with a strong knowledge of ATE compliance best practices.The cryptocurrency business is rapidly evolving, and this role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of this development. As part of a remote-first company, attendance at in-person offsites is expected throughout the year, fostering collaboration and connection among team members.
What You Will Do
- Assist with handling routine ATE-related advisory requests and act as a point of escalation for questions related to ATE risk.
- Collaborate on ATE-related projects, including designing and implementing controls to detect and mitigate tax evasion risk.
- Create and deliver ATE training to diverse audiences, ensuring compliance and awareness across the company.
- Provide subject matter expert support on anti-tax evasion risk assessments, utilizing knowledge of AML laws and CARF regulations.
- Stay updated on changes in the crypto ecosystem and ATE regulatory environment, including rule-making, guidance, and litigation.
- Assist with core ATE compliance activities, including governance of the ATE Program.
- Participate in in-person offsites to foster collaboration, connection, and alignment with the team.
- Utilize generative AI tools responsibly, continuously learning as tools evolve, and applying human-in-the-loop practices.
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in a similar Compliance/Risk/Legal function or role, preferably with knowledge of cryptocurrency regulations.
- Working knowledge of anti-tax evasion and AML requirements, including familiarity with CARF, AML laws, and the UK Corporate Criminal Offense related to the facilitation of tax evasion.
- Experience designing and implementing controls related to the detection and mitigation of tax evasion and facilitation risk.
- Highly collaborative with the ability to communicate effectively with varying audiences, including technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to synthesize complex information into concise summaries and recommendations, with a focus on compliance and risk mitigation.

- Experience with cryptocurrency or blockchain technology, with an understanding of its implications on financial systems.
- Familiarity with regulatory environments and compliance standards in multiple jurisdictions.
- Certification in compliance, such as CCEP or CSCP, demonstrating a commitment to professional development in the field.
