Job Description
About the Role
As a Senior Backend Engineer at Guidewire, you will play a crucial role in developing and maintaining the company's pricing and rating platform. This platform is a strategic initiative that enables insurers to build and deploy advanced pricing models, driving higher profitability and greater satisfaction for policyholders. You will be part of a growing team of engineers divided into agile pods, working on a young product with a fresh codebase. The team takes ownership of all aspects of the software development lifecycle, including architecture, coding, quality assurance, infrastructure, and deployment strategies.The pricing and rating platform leverages a modern technology stack, machine learning libraries, and cloud infrastructure, ensuring scalability, performance, and security. You will cooperate with the product team on a daily basis and support sales and customer success teams to drive product excellence. What You Will Do
- Develop scalable Python solutions using FastAPI, Flask, and SQLAlchemy
- Analyze requirements, propose solutions, and build production-grade solutions
- Support, optimize, and maintain existing solutions to meet service level objectives
- Cooperate with team members through PR reviews, RFCs/ADRs, and agile ceremonies
- Take ownership of quality through test automation and profiling
- Work with cloud-native technologies, including AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes
- Collaborate with the product team to drive product excellence
- Support sales and customer success teams to drive business growth
- Participate in agile ceremonies, including daily stand-ups and sprint planning
- Review and improve code quality through code reviews and pair programming
What We Are Looking For
- Proficiency in Python development with a minimum of 6 years of experience
- Experience with FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, Pydantic, and Celery
- Strong foundation in algorithmics and data structures
- Experience with cloud-native technologies, including AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts
- Strong sense of responsibility, good work ethic, and a natural curiosity and openness to new ideas and tools
- Experience with test automation and profiling
- Familiarity with public cloud providers, preferably AWS
- Experience with machine learning libraries and data engineering tools
Nice to Have
- Data engineering background or interest
- Familiarity with NumPy, pandas, and Polars
- Experience with Azure or other cloud providers
- Knowledge of insurance industry trends and technologies
