## About the Role As a Senior Backend Engineer at Mercury, you will be part of a team that is dedicated to crafting an exceptional banking experience for startups. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve working closely with designers and product leaders to ship lovable experiences that meet the needs of Mercury's customers. You will have a strong sense of product ownership and will be expected to actively seek responsibility, helping to shape and build Mercury's future.

## What You Will Do - Feel a strong sense of product ownership and actively seek responsibility for your work - Work in an autonomous environment on a close-knit team with a 'startup within a startup' feel - Partner closely with designers and product leaders to ship lovable experiences - Join a team of experienced product engineers within one of Mercury's product groups, such as Banking, Experiences, Expansion, or Risk - Collaborate with cross-functional counterparts to deliver exceptional results - Make architectural decisions and measure the impact of those decisions over time - Articulate your technical opinions and lay out tradeoffs clearly - Communicate and collaborate effectively with peers and stakeholders - Empathize with users and channel their perspective to build lovable products - Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies
## What We Are Looking For - 3-7 years of backend development experience - Knowledge of or excitement to learn Haskell - Proficiency in SQL - Experience making architectural decisions and measuring their impact - Ability to clearly articulate technical opinions and lay out tradeoffs - Effective communication and collaboration skills - Empathy for users and ability to channel their perspective - Experience working in an autonomous environment - Passion for building lovable products
## Nice to Have - Experience working with fintech or banking systems - Knowledge of cloud-based technologies - Experience with agile development methodologies - Certification in backend development or a related field
