Senior Backend / Product Engineer (AI Platform)

## About the Role As a senior backend/product engineer at Virtasant, you will be responsible for building and scaling the company's AI-powered cost intelligence platform. This role is explicitly product-focused, and you will have the autonomy to operate with significant ownership and direct access to product leadership. Your mission will be to build core platform capabilities that mature the current FinOps platform into a smart intelligence platform, including AI-driven insights, workflows, and agent-based features. The role is part of the Cost Optimisation (CO) – Product Engineering team and reports to the Product Lead (CO). You will work closely with the product team to turn vision into shipped features, identifying blockers early, communicating clearly, and iterating fast. Your expertise in AI, backend engineering, and cloud architecture will be essential in driving the development of the platform. As a senior backend/product engineer, you will be part of a team that works with ambitious, forward-thinking organizations to solve real-world challenges through hands-on execution, deep technical expertise, and a delivery-led approach. ## What You Will Do - Design and build backend-heavy platform features for the AI-powered cost intelligence platform - Productionalize AI-enabled capabilities, such as anomaly detection, recommendations, and agent-based workflows - Implement AI thoughtfully across the entire SDLC, including prototyping, testing, iteration, and deployment - Collaborate closely with the product team to turn vision into shipped features - Identify blockers early, communicate clearly, and iterate fast - Help shape engineering standards and patterns as the product matures - Design systems that support model evaluation, prompt/version management, and deterministic fallbacks to ensure AI-driven features are observable, testable, and production-safe - Build AI features with explicit evaluation criteria, feedback loops, and guardrails, such as accuracy, latency, cost, and explainability, so models improve predictably over time - Utilize lightweight but rigorous AI engineering practices, including evaluation harnesses, rollout strategies, and rollback mechanisms, to allow the platform to scale ## What We Are Looking For - 5+ years of experience in backend engineering, with a focus on AI-powered platforms - Strong expertise in AI, machine learning, and deep learning - Proficiency in programming languages, such as Python, Java, or C++ - Experience with cloud architecture, engineering, and transformation - Strong understanding of cloud-based technologies, including AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud - Excellent collaboration and communication skills - Experience with agile development methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban - Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex problems and develop creative solutions - Experience with DevOps practices, including continuous integration and continuous deployment ## Nice to Have - Experience with containerization, using tools such as Docker - Familiarity with Kubernetes and other container orchestration tools - Experience with serverless architecture and event-driven programming - Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and practices - Experience with data engineering and data science ## Benefits and Perks - Competitive salary and benefits package - Opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI-powered projects - Collaborative and dynamic work environment - Flexible working hours and remote work options - Professional development opportunities, including training and mentorship - Access to the latest technologies and tools - Recognition and rewards for outstanding performance - Comprehensive health and wellness programs - Generous paid time off and vacation policy
