About the Role
The Senior Casualty Claims Specialist role is a critical part of Liberty Mutual's Personal Lines Casualty Team, focusing on managing attorney-represented and litigated auto and homeowner's bodily injury claims. This role operates on a Pacific (PST) or Mountain (MST) time schedule, offering flexibility for those in the respective time zones. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing claims, investigating, and resolving them efficiently, ensuring quality service to policyholders.Day-to-day, the role entails managing a portfolio of claims, evaluating coverage, liability, and damages, and settling claims within prescribed authority levels. It requires a deep understanding of legal liability, insurance policy coverage, and state tort law. The ability to communicate effectively with policyholders, witnesses, claimants, and legal counsel is crucial.
The team context is dynamic, with collaboration between claims specialists, legal counsel, and other stakeholders to ensure prompt and quality service. Reporting structure includes regular updates to Home Office and local management on the status of claims.
What You Will Do
- Manage, investigate, and resolve attorney-represented and litigated auto and homeowner's bodily injury claims
- Investigate and evaluate coverage, liability, damages, and settle claims within prescribed authority levels
- Identify potential suspicious claims and refer them to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU)
- Identify opportunities for third-party subrogation
- Prepare for and attend trials, hearings, and conferences
- Report to Home Office and local management on the status of claims
- Confer with trial counsel and prepare trial reports
- Communicate with policyholders, witnesses, and claimants to gather information regarding claims
- Refer tasks to auxiliary resources as necessary and advise on the proper course of action
- Respond to written and telephone inquiries, including status reports
- Ensure adequacy of reserves and manage the security of financial processing of claims
- Update files and provide comprehensive reports as required
- Manage the practices and billing activities of outside and in-house counsel
What We Are Looking For
- 1+ years of Personal Lines Third Party Auto Casualty Experience
- 1+ years of Attorney Represented Experience
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Good interpersonal, analytical, investigative, and negotiation skills
- Customer service experience preferred
- Demonstrated competency in legal liability, general insurance policy coverage, and State Tort Law
- Ability to obtain proper licensing as required
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, with at least 12-18 months of directly related experience
Nice to Have
- Experience with claims management software
- Knowledge of litigation procedures and practices
- Certification in insurance or a related field
- Experience in managing remote teams or working in a remote environment
