About the Role
The Senior Consultant, Gender Equality Programmatic Review, will play a critical role in supporting UNICEF's mission to promote gender equality and empower women and girls. This role is part of the organization's efforts to ensure that its programs are effective, efficient, and equitable. The successful candidate will work closely with the program team to review and improve programmatic approaches, ensuring that they are grounded in evidence and responsive to the needs of diverse stakeholders.The role entails day-to-day collaboration with program teams, conducting reviews of program documents, and providing technical guidance on gender equality. The Senior Consultant will also work with external partners, including governments, civil society organizations, and other UN agencies, to advance gender equality and women's empowerment. This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned professional to bring their expertise to bear on some of the world's most pressing development challenges.
As a key member of the team, the Senior Consultant will report to the Program Manager and will be expected to work independently, with minimal supervision. They will also be required to travel periodically to support program implementation and monitoring.
What You Will Do
- Conduct comprehensive reviews of program documents, including program proposals, reports, and evaluations, to assess their alignment with UNICEF's gender equality goals
- Provide technical guidance and support to program teams on integrating gender equality into program design, implementation, and monitoring
- Collaborate with external partners to advance gender equality and women's empowerment, including through the development of joint programs and advocacy initiatives
- Develop and implement strategies to strengthen the capacity of program teams to design and deliver gender-responsive programs
- Analyze and interpret data on program performance, including data on gender equality outcomes, to inform program improvement and decision-making
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including governments, civil society organizations, and other UN agencies
- Support the development of knowledge products, including research papers, briefs, and reports, on gender equality and programmatic issues
- Provide input into the development of program policies, guidelines, and standards, to ensure that they are grounded in evidence and responsive to the needs of diverse stakeholders
- Facilitate training and capacity-building programs for program teams on gender equality and program management
- Collaborate with other teams, including the communications and advocacy teams, to advance UNICEF's gender equality agenda
What We Are Looking For
- Advanced degree in a relevant field, such as international development, gender studies, or social sciences
- Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in program management, with a focus on gender equality and international development
- Proven expertise in programmatic review and analysis, with a strong understanding of gender equality principles and practices
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and develop evidence-based recommendations
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including program teams, partners, and communities
- Fluency in English, with proficiency in another UN language an asset
- Experience working in a remote team environment, with a strong ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Strong skills in program management, including planning, implementation, and monitoring
Nice to Have
- Experience working with UNICEF or other UN agencies, with a strong understanding of the organization's policies and procedures
- Proficiency in data analysis software, such as SPSS or SPSS, with the ability to analyze and interpret complex data sets
- Experience in developing and implementing training programs, with a strong ability to facilitate learning and capacity-building
- Knowledge of human rights and gender equality frameworks, with a strong understanding of the international human rights system
- Fluency in additional languages, including Arabic, French, Spanish, or Portuguese
