About the Role
As a Senior Corporate Counsel at QTS Data Centers, you will play a critical role in supporting the company's legal operations, focusing on real estate and project finance. Your expertise will be essential in navigating the complexities of corporate law, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing contracts. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to provide guidance on legal matters, develop and implement internal policies, and oversee the company's data security program.The Senior Corporate Counsel role is a key position within the organization, requiring a high degree of autonomy, strong analytical skills, and excellent communication abilities. You will be responsible for managing a wide range of legal matters, from drafting and negotiating contracts to ensuring compliance with domestic and international privacy laws.
As a Senior Corporate Counsel, you will be an integral part of the company's decision-making process, providing strategic guidance on legal and business matters. Your expertise will help drive business growth, mitigate risks, and ensure the company's continued success in the competitive tech industry.
What You Will Do
- Oversee general corporate legal matters, including corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and internal policies
- Negotiate and draft customer and vendor contracts, as well as other transactional matters
- Assist with legal and regulatory compliance, ensuring adherence to relevant laws and regulations
- Manage the company's data security program, including compliance with data protection laws
- Assist with the management of the company's insurance program and operations
- Perform a broad range of legal matters and general business matters based on the needs of the company
- Work with and manage outside counsel, counterparties, insurers, and other third parties as needed
- Manage collections on customer accounts and perform other duties as assigned
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including internal teams, external counsel, and business partners
- Stay up-to-date with changes in laws and regulations, ensuring the company's continued compliance
What We Are Looking For
- J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school with strong academic credentials
- Admission to the Bar of a U.S. state or the District of Columbia
- Five or more years of legal experience as a practicing lawyer working in a general corporate transactional practice
- Experience with project finance and/or asset-based lending
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts effectively
- Excellent analytical, time-management, judgment, and decision-making skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high degree of autonomy
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel), Box, Workday, and DocuSign
- Strong work ethic and accountability to deadlines, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and demands
Nice to Have
- Experience working in the tech industry, particularly in data centers or related fields
- Knowledge of domestic and international privacy laws, including GDPR and CCPA
- Familiarity with data security programs and compliance frameworks
- Experience managing outside counsel and other external service providers
- Certification in a related field, such as CIPP or CISM
