About the Role
The Senior Counsel position at Mercury is a critical role that entails advising on investment products, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and driving growth. As a key member of the Product & Regulatory Legal team, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, and compliance, to deliver high-quality customer experiences. What You Will Do
- Own the investment products portfolio, serving as the primary legal advisor for Mercury Treasury and Mercury Invest
- Advise across the full product life cycle, including supporting new feature development, drafting disclosures, and calibrating content for marketing and customer communications
- Work closely with the compliance team on regulatory matters affecting investment products, interpreting requirements, and pressure-testing approaches
- Build relationships across the company, including product, engineering, and operations teams, and bring a legal perspective to conversations early in the product development process
- Contribute to examination readiness with FINRA and the SEC, and support compliance with regulatory requirements
- Use AI tools to drive efficiency in legal workflows and contribute to the development of new solutions
- Translate complex regulatory concepts into straightforward narratives for product teams and external audiences
- Stay curious and agile, embracing new regulations, market shifts, and product pivots as opportunities for growth and learning
What We Are Looking For
- 6+ years of legal experience, with at least 2 years focused on non-deposit investment products
- Familiarity with the Investment Advisers Act, Securities Act, Investment Company Act, Regulation Best Interest, Form CRS/ADV, and FINRA rules
- Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a strong ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with cross-functional teams
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
Nice to Have
- Experience with AI tools in legal workflows, and a genuine interest in finding new ways to drive efficiency
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies and experience working in an iterative, feedback-driven environment
- Strong understanding of the financial technology industry, including trends, regulatory requirements, and market developments
