About the Role

The Senior Counsel role at Tyson & Mendes LLP is a unique opportunity for experienced insurance defense attorneys to join a collaborative and innovative team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in handling complex, high-exposure cases, including general liability, construction defect, toxic tort, and class action matters.

The role entails working closely with a team of experienced trial attorneys, providing leadership and direction to less experienced attorneys, and developing compelling case themes. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, think strategically, and demonstrate excellent writing, deposition, and advocacy skills.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and execute case strategies for complex, high-exposure cases
  • Handle court appearances, depositions, briefs, and trials
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including trial attorneys and support staff
  • Provide leadership and direction to less experienced attorneys
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients and external partners
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to stay up-to-date on industry developments
  • Manage full case handling responsibilities, including discovery and trial preparation
  • Communicate effectively with clients, providing regular updates and advice
  • Work closely with the firm's existing and future clients to cultivate relationships

What We Are Looking For

  • JD from an ABA-approved school
  • Active California Bar License
  • 8+ years of solid litigation experience, specifically with litigation support, deposition, and trial preparation
  • Ability to manage full case handling responsibilities, including all facets of discovery and trial
  • Experience handling insurance defense matters preferred
  • Experience with time management systems
  • Proficiency in MS Suite, specifically Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to think and act independently and with minimal supervision
  • Outstanding listening, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Professional appearance and demeanor

Nice to Have

  • Experience with class actions, construction defect, toxic tort, or other complex cases
  • Familiarity with the company's approach to stopping Nuclear Verdicts
  • Experience mentoring junior attorneys
  • Knowledge of industry developments and trends
