About the Role

The Senior Data Center Engineer II plays a critical role in building and operating the physical infrastructure that powers DigitalOcean's cloud platform. As a key member of the data center team, you will be responsible for deploying, maintaining, and scaling the servers and networking equipment that enable millions of developers to run their applications. This is a remote position that requires a strong understanding of data center infrastructure, including compute, networking, and storage systems.

As a Senior Data Center Engineer II, you will have the opportunity to work on large-scale deployments, new data center expansions, and next-generation infrastructure. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and scalability of DigitalOcean's cloud platform.

What You Will Do

  • Deploy, maintain, and scale DigitalOcean's data center infrastructure
  • Rack, stack, and cable servers, power distribution units (PDUs), and network switches
  • Install and commission servers, networking equipment, storage systems, and GPU infrastructure
  • Design and execute large-scale infrastructure deployments, including rack buildouts and cluster expansions
  • Support new data center builds and expansions through rack layout planning and infrastructure readiness validation
  • Deploy and troubleshoot high-density compute platforms, including GPU and liquid-cooled infrastructure
  • Diagnose and repair hardware issues across servers, networking equipment, and storage systems
  • Debug hardware, network, and Linux OS related issues
  • Submit RMAs and manage hardware lifecycle replacements with equipment vendors
  • Manage shipping, receiving, and inventory tracking of data center hardware and components
  • Maintain deployment documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures

What We Are Looking For

  • 6-8+ years of experience deploying, operating, or supporting infrastructure within large-scale data center or cloud environments
  • Strong understanding of data center infrastructure, including compute, networking, and storage systems
  • Proficient understanding of data center power and cooling architecture
  • Experience deploying and troubleshooting GPU hardware and high-density compute infrastructure
  • Experience working with or supporting liquid-cooled infrastructure
  • Strong Linux knowledge and command line experience; familiarity with bash scripting
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, networking, and operating systems
  • Understanding of data center cabling standards and deployment best practices

  • Experience supporting large-scale infrastructure deployments or data center expansions
  • Ability to analyze infrastructure incidents and drive operational improvements
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to perform deep technical investigations
  • Experience maintaining deployment documentation and operational procedures
