Senior Data Protection Engineer

About the Role

The data protection team plays a critical role in ensuring the resilience of Coinbase's ecosystem. As a senior engineer, you will be expected to lead by example, sharing your expertise and guiding junior team members to achieve exceptional results. Your technical acumen, paired with an automation-first mindset, will enable you to build scalable, next-gen Data Loss Prevention operations.

What You Will Do

• Lead and expand data loss prevention capabilities to protect the Coinbase ecosystem from sophisticated data security incidents
• Execute the long-term strategy for the Data Prevention program to harden the security posture against data security threats
• Evaluate and direct complex designs/controls across a decentralized tech environment to promote security without impeding the speed of business
• Implement and deploy DLP tools and technologies in concert with cross-functional teams
• Enhance operational efficiency across a wide array of DLP Engineering & Operations leveraging LLMs and agentic AI
• Bring an automation-first mindset to champion and drive a more streamlined and scalable approach towards DLP operations
• Produce quantitative and qualitative metrics to apprise Data Protection Leadership of programmatic impact and challenges
• Collaborate across Security and Privacy Teams and lead cross-functional data protection initiatives
• Lead a culture of excellence by mentoring peers and sharing knowledge
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely remediation
• Work in concert with risk teams to measure control effectiveness and address changes in laws/regulations globally

What We Are Looking For

• Experienced security engineering professional in the data protection space with a track record of delivering measurable results
• Technical acumen to solve operational issues with engineering solutions
• Direct experience testing, tuning, and implementing data loss prevention controls across multiple OS stacks
• Comfortable manipulating and orchestrating controls to address multiple operating systems
• Passion for data protection and a commitment to staying up-to-date with the latest technologies and threats
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams
• Ability to lead by example, guiding junior team members and sharing expertise

Nice to Have

• Experience with LLMs and agentic AI in a data protection context
• Familiarity with decentralized tech environments and their unique security challenges
• Knowledge of global regulatory requirements for data protection
• Certification in a relevant field, such as CISSP or CISM
