About the Role

The Senior Data Scientist role at Amgen is a critical position within the AI & Data organization, focusing on developing advanced statistical, Bayesian, and machine learning models to improve forecasting capabilities and inform strategic decision-making. As a key member of the Forecasting team, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to build forecasting solutions that support critical business processes. The role requires a deep understanding of complex data sources, modern analytical tooling, and the ability to communicate insights effectively to stakeholders.

The Senior Data Scientist will be responsible for driving business decisions through data-driven insights, leveraging state-of-the-art forecasting methods and techniques. What You Will Do

  • Develop advanced statistical, Bayesian, and machine learning models to forecast demand across multiple horizons
  • Work with large, complex datasets to generate insights that support strategic decision-making
  • Develop simulation and scenario-analysis capabilities to better understand complex dynamics among patients, payers, providers, and market conditions
  • Execute across the end-to-end modeling lifecycle, including scoping, prototyping, data analysis, feature engineering, model development, deployment, and monitoring
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in Commercial, Operations, Finance, and Technology to ensure forecasts are well-integrated into critical business workflows
  • Research and evaluate emerging tools and methodologies in forecasting, data science, and AI for potential application to business problems
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of models, data sources, and methodologies
  • Present findings and insights to stakeholders, including senior leadership
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in data science and machine learning

What We Are Looking For

  • Doctorate degree or Master's degree with 2 years of experience applying data science in enterprise environments
  • Strong understanding of Python, SQL, and data science libraries such as scikit-learn, PyMC, Pytorch, and Tensorflow
  • Expertise in time-series forecasts, probabilistic programming, and predictive modeling
  • Strong analytical and statistical intuition, with the ability to generate novel insights from complex datasets
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to present complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience working with large, complex datasets and leveraging state-of-the-art techniques in statistical modeling and analytics
  • Strong understanding of business acumen and the ability to drive business decisions through data-driven insights

Nice to Have

  • 6+ years of experience applying data science in enterprise environments, with a demonstrated track record of delivering business value
  • Experience working in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry
