About the Role
The Senior Database Administrator role at BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is a fully remote position that offers the opportunity to work on mission-critical health insurance systems in a dynamic and collaborative environment. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for designing, securing, automating, and maintaining cloud-native database platforms on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), as well as supporting other database systems and modernization initiatives.The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in GCP database services, including BigQuery and Cloud SQL, as well as familiarity with IBM Db2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows. You will be working in a fast-paced environment, ensuring the high availability and performance of database platforms, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support business objectives.

What You Will Do
- Design, deploy, and manage databases on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) using services such as BigQuery and Cloud SQL
- Build highly available, scalable database solutions on GCP, and optimize their performance to support complex healthcare applications
- Ensure compliance with data protection regulations, such as HIPAA, and implement robust security measures to safeguard sensitive patient data
- Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions on GCP to ensure 24/7 uptime and data integrity
- Automate database administration tasks using scripting or Infrastructure-as-Code tools, such as Terraform, Python, or Bash
- Support CI/CD pipelines for database changes, and collaborate with development teams to ensure smooth deployment of database updates
- Utilize logical models to ensure efficient and reliable database performance
- Design and develop logical and physical layers for various databases
- Lead in handling data testing, reporting, backups, and restorations
- Manage and maintain data in all production and non-production databases and replication servers
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in a computer science-related field or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years of experience in systems and programming, with a focus on database administration
- Proven expertise in GCP database services, including BigQuery and Cloud SQL
- Familiarity with IBM Db2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows
- Strong knowledge of cloud database security best practices, and experience ensuring compliance with data protection regulations
- Hands-on experience with automation tools, such as Terraform, Python, or Bash
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience leading large and complex projects, and demonstrated success in managing multiple priorities and deadlines
- Proven analysis, design, and coding skills, with a focus on database administration and development
Nice to Have
- Experience with containerization using Docker, and orchestration using Kubernetes
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies, and experience working in a DevOps environment
- Knowledge of data warehousing and business intelligence concepts, and experience working with data visualization tools
- Certification in GCP or other cloud-based technologies, such as AWS or Azure
