About the Role
As a Senior Design Engineer at Buffer, you will be at the forefront of creating and maintaining the company's web presence. Your primary focus will be on building and improving the front-end design system, ensuring that Buffer's online platforms are not only visually appealing but also provide seamless user experiences. This role is pivotal in supporting the marketing team's efforts to scale the brand redesign and create consumer-grade web experiences that capture the company's energy and ambition. You will work closely with the UX designer, marketing leadership, and customer advocates to understand visitor needs and develop strategies to meet those needs effectively.The role sits within the Marketing team and reports to the Head of Engineering Operations, offering a unique blend of technical expertise and marketing acumen. As part of a small, agile team, you will be trusted to manage your time effectively and contribute significantly to brand, product marketing, and growth projects. What You Will Do
- Develop and maintain Buffer's front-end design system, ensuring consistency and high-quality user experiences across all platforms.
- Collaborate with the UX designer to conceptualize and build new web experiences, including product launch pages, brand storytelling, landing pages, and marketing sites.
- Write and ship high-quality, tested code, adhering to Buffer's front-end engineering standards and contributing to the evolution of these standards.
- Work closely with the marketing team to understand campaign requirements and develop web solutions that meet marketing objectives.
- Participate in design and engineering discussions, providing expertise on front-end development and design systems.
- Conduct code reviews and contribute to the improvement of the overall code quality and architecture.
- Engage with customer advocates to gather feedback and insights on how to improve user experiences.
- Stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in front-end development and web design, applying this knowledge to improve Buffer's web presence.
- Collaborate with the product team to align web experiences with product development and launch strategies.
- Develop and maintain documentation for front-end code and design systems, ensuring that knowledge is shared across the team.
What We Are Looking For
- A strong background in front-end development with expertise in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and relevant frameworks.
- Experience with design systems and their implementation in large-scale web applications.
- Proficiency in GTM (Google Tag Manager) and Google Sheets for data analysis and integration.
- Excellent understanding of web performance optimization techniques and accessibility standards.
- Experience working with UX designers and product managers to develop user-centered design solutions.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to debug complex front-end issues.
- Familiarity with version control systems like Git.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical team members.
