About the Role

The Senior Design Manager for Jira AI will play a pivotal role in shaping the platform's design vision as it transforms into an intelligent, AI-driven platform. This involves leading a team of designers to create experiences where human teams and agentic systems collaborate seamlessly. The role requires a deep understanding of system design, technical fluency, and the ability to align cross-functional teams around a compelling vision. What You Will Do

  • Define and drive the design vision for Jira's agentic AI experiences, focusing on creating a cohesive and user-friendly platform
  • Set the direction for multi-year product evolution, ensuring alignment with the company's overall strategy and goals
  • Lead a team of 8-12 designers, focusing on craft standards, talent development, and fostering an inclusive team culture
  • Partner with engineering to navigate technical constraints, agent architectures, and platform design
  • Drive experimentation and validation of new interaction paradigms through MVPs, prototypes, and concept sprints
  • Own the end-to-end design quality of shipped AI experiences across Jira surfaces
  • Contribute to the broader design organization's approach to AI-native product design
  • Coordinate with AI platform, ecosystem design, and adjacent product teams to ensure connected, coherent experiences
  • Develop and maintain design standards and guidelines for AI-driven features

What We Are Looking For

  • Direct experience designing for agentic systems, AI platforms, or autonomous workflows
  • Technical depth to collaborate as a peer with engineering leaders on architecture, model behavior, and system design
  • Track record leading design for complex, large-scale enterprise or developer-facing products
  • Demonstrated ability to define a compelling product vision and deliver against it in evolving, ambiguous environments
  • Experience managing and growing teams of designers, with a focus on talent development and team culture
  • Strong understanding of human-centered design principles and their application in AI-driven platforms
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
