Job Description

## About the Role The Senior Director, Field CTOs, will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical voice in Gitlab's most strategic customer conversations. This involves guiding the Field CTO team in engaging across regions and turning field insights into valuable inputs for sales leadership, product, and marketing. As a key member of the go-to-market leadership within the Chief Revenue Officer organization, this position will partner closely with the executive teams of Gitlab's largest customers. The role is a player-coach position, requiring both personal engagement on strategic accounts and the development and management of a distributed global team.

The team operates at the intersection of DevSecOps strategy, AI for software development, application security, compliance, and platform modernization. Leaders advised by this team include Chief Information Security Officers, Chief Security Officers, Chief Technology Officers, chief architects, and leaders in platform engineering and developer productivity. Providing clear technical guidance, pragmatic recommendations, and transparent communication of tradeoffs will be essential in serving these leaders.

In the first year, the focus will be on strengthening the Field CTO operating model, improving team deployment to high-value opportunities, and enhancing the quality and consistency of executive engagement across regions. This is a unique opportunity to help customers understand the value of a single DevSecOps platform while representing Gitlab with clarity, transparency, and results.

## What You Will Do - Lead the global Field CTO team by hiring, developing, and retaining senior technical leaders who engage with Gitlab's most strategic customers and opportunities.

  • Set the operating model for the team, including how engagements are scoped, how Field CTOs are matched to accounts and regions, and how insights are documented and shared.
  • Coach a team of senior individual contributors to achieve their full potential and contribute to the success of Gitlab's strategic customers.
  • Partner with executive stakeholders and external audiences through meetings, events, and written thought leadership to represent Gitlab and drive business growth.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase the impact and effectiveness of the Field CTO team, aligning with Gitlab's overall business objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, marketing, and product, to ensure alignment and leverage insights from the field to inform product development and go-to-market strategies.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key decision-makers at Gitlab's largest and most strategic customers, serving as a trusted advisor on DevSecOps and digital transformation.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activity, and emerging technologies to continuously improve the technical voice and strategic value proposition of Gitlab.
## What We Are Looking For - Proven experience in a technical leadership role, preferably in a Field CTO or similar capacity, with a focus on DevSecOps, software development, and digital transformation.
  • Strong understanding of DevSecOps strategies, AI for software development, application security, compliance, and platform modernization.
  • Experience in managing and developing high-performing teams, with a focus on coaching and mentoring senior technical leaders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with executive stakeholders, customers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to drive business growth through strategic planning and execution.
  • Experience with AI as a core productivity multiplier, driving efficiency and innovation in workflow.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical issues and develop pragmatic solutions.
  • Ability to travel as required, up to 20% of the time, for customer engagements, events, and team meetings.
## Nice to Have - Experience with Gitlab's DevSecOps platform or similar technologies.
  • certifications in DevSecOps, Cloud Computing, or related fields.
  • Experience in the software development industry, with a focus on developer productivity and platform engineering.
