About the Role

The Senior Electrical Substation Project Engineering Manager 3 role at GE Vernova is a critical position that requires leading the design and development of electrical substation projects. This involves managing a multidisciplinary team of engineers and contractors, ensuring that all projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. The role entails working closely with vendors, professional customer interfaces, and other stakeholders to deliver fully integrated substation solutions.

Day-to-day responsibilities include performing detailed quality reviews, providing technical direction, and coordinating with the Project Manager for schedule and budget. The successful candidate will have a strong background in substation design, including experience with transmission and distribution substation engineering, primary substation design, and calculations.

The role is part of GE Vernova's electrification business, under the Grid Solutions Integration North America Region. The team is responsible for delivering high-quality substation design solutions, ensuring compliance with industry standards and specifications, and driving cross-discipline coordination to deliver fully integrated substation solutions.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and coordinate all technical aspects of AC power substation projects
  • Perform detailed quality reviews and provide technical direction to the project team
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager for schedule and budget
  • Develop and oversee key design deliverables, including power single-line diagrams and equipment specifications
  • Act as the single point of contact for all technical matters between customers, vendors, project managers, and engineering teams
  • Accountable for directing and supporting engineers and designers to meet technical specifications, budget constraints, and project timelines
  • Drive cross-discipline coordination to deliver fully integrated substation solutions
  • Review and contribute to ITO process deliverables, including conceptual engineering and proposal documentation
  • Lead preparation of high-voltage equipment specifications and contractor work scopes
  • Support vendor engagement and equipment selection

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in industrial or utility HV/EHV substation design
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% (including international)
  • Experience with North American electric utility substation design standards
  • Proven expertise in transmission and distribution substation engineering (utility and renewable energy)
  • Proficient in key design calculations, including battery sizing, DC system design, and AC auxiliary power
  • Experience with Excel and other design software

Nice to Have

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the U.S. in good standing
  • Experience with small team leadership and project management
  • Knowledge of grid solutions integration and electrification businesses
