About the Role

The Senior Electrical Substation Project Engineering Manager is a critical position at GE Vernova, responsible for leading technical projects from conception to completion. As a seasoned engineer with a strong background in electrical substation design, you will be accountable for the performance of your team and the overall success of the project. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring that all aspects of the substation design, including power single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, and general arrangement drawings, meet the required standards and specifications.

The role involves coordinating with vendors, contractors, and professional customer interfaces, as well as providing technical direction and performing detailed quality reviews. You will be the primary technical lead, responsible for scheduling, compliance to standards and specifications, value engineering, design review planning, and ensuring quality assurance and control.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and coordinate all technical aspects of AC power substation projects
  • Serve as the primary technical lead, responsible for scheduling, compliance to standards and specifications, value engineering, design review planning, and ensuring quality assurance and control
  • Develop and oversee key design deliverables, including power single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, and general substation arrangement drawings
  • Act as the single point of contact for all technical matters between customers, vendors, project managers, and engineering teams
  • Direct and support engineers and designers to meet technical specifications, budget constraints, and project timelines
  • Drive cross-discipline coordination to deliver fully integrated substation solutions
  • Review and contribute to ITO process deliverables, including conceptual engineering, proposal documentation, and sourcing support
  • Lead preparation of high-voltage equipment specifications and contractor work scopes
  • Support vendor engagement and equipment selection
  • Assist the manager in ensuring team productivity and billable utilization
  • Support commissioning and interface efforts between customers and project stakeholders

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in industrial or utility HV/EHV substation design
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% (including international)
  • Proficiency in key design calculations, including battery sizing, DC system design, and AC auxiliary power
  • Experience with North American electric utility substation design standards
  • Proven expertise in transmission and distribution substation engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the U.S. in good standing
  • Willingness to use license and obtain licensure in other states if required

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Excel and other design software
  • Knowledge of international substation design standards
  • Familiarity with commissioning and interface efforts between customers and project stakeholders
