Job Description

About the Role

The Senior Electrical Substation Project Engineering Manager is a pivotal role at GE Vernova, responsible for the technical leadership of electrical substation design projects. This includes overseeing the design of high-voltage and extra-high-voltage substations, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. The role involves managing a team of engineers and designers, coordinating with various stakeholders, and driving the technical direction of projects.

As a key member of the team, the Senior Electrical Substation Project Engineering Manager will be expected to provide technical mentorship, resolve conflicts, and ensure that finished engineering products meet the required standards. This role demands a deep understanding of electrical power systems, including substation design, protection and control systems, and electrical physical design.

The successful candidate will be working in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams, including principal engineers, protection and control engineers, civil structural engineers, and project managers. Effective communication and leadership skills are essential to succeed in this position, as the role involves directing the efforts of engineers and designers, coordinating with sourcing, and interfacing with internal and external stakeholders.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and coordinate all technical aspects of AC power substation projects, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Direct the efforts of engineers and designers, providing clear direction, expectations, and reviews to ensure goals are met or exceeded.
  • Coordinate with sourcing and the project team on technical matters to meet project specifications, cost control, and schedule objectives.
  • Interface with internal and external team members, including principal engineers, protection and control engineers, civil structural engineers, electrical physical designers, draftsmen, project managers, sourcing, and support organizations.
  • Oversee the entire substation outdoor design, with support from primary, secondary, civil, and doc control engineers/designers.
  • Perform related primary studies and calculations, as well as development of the bills of material.
  • Write high-voltage equipment specifications and issue material purchase request forms, and evaluate vendor quotations for substation equipment.
  • Develop scope of work documents with deliverables and schedules for subcontracted engineering work and oversee the successful completion of the work.
  • Serve as the single point of contact for technical issues for the customer and project manager.
  • Work on the development of proposals, including writing and/or reviewing technical specifications, estimating design man-hours and materials, supporting sourcing for vendor quotations, and directing designers and draftsmen on drawing requirements.

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college, with a strong preference for a degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
  • Minimum of eight years of experience in industrial, renewable, or utility HV & EHV substation design.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% of the time, including international travel, and compliance with all relevant company travel and tax policies.
  • Strong technical and economic understanding of the project execution process.
  • Experience in leading and managing teams, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality results on time and within budget.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to direct and mentor engineers and designers.
  • Professional Engineering License (within the United States) is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and serve as a technical mentor.

Nice to Have
