About the Role
As a Senior Engineer, Backend at Tide, you will be part of a talented team of engineers working on designing, creating, and running a rich product catalog. Your expertise will be crucial in building server-side applications using Java 17, Spring Boot, and JOOQ, as well as exposing and consuming RESTful APIs. With a focus on event-driven microservice architecture, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference by taking ownership of engineering practices in a rapidly expanding company.The role involves working in small autonomous teams, grouped under common domains, owning the full lifecycle of some microservices in Tide's service catalog. Engineers at Tide self-organize, gather together to discuss technical challenges, and set their own guidelines in the different Communities of Practice. This is an exceptional opportunity to collaborate closely with Product Owners to understand users' needs, business opportunities, and regulatory requirements, and translate them into well-engineered solutions.
The teams at Tide value good API design and treat their APIs as products. With the use of SNS + SQS and Kafka to send events, and PostgreSQL via Aurora as the primary datastore, you will have the chance to work with cutting-edge technologies. The company's Cloud team uses Docker, Terraform, EKS/Kubernetes to run the platform, and DataDog is used to monitor services and investigate issues.
What You Will Do
- Contribute to event-driven microservice architecture, currently consisting of over 200 services owned by 40+ teams
- Define and maintain services owned by your team, including design, build, run, and scale globally
- Use Java 17, Spring Boot, and JOOQ to build services
- Expose and consume RESTful APIs, with a focus on good API design
- Utilize PostgreSQL via Aurora as the primary datastore
- Deploy services to production as often as needed, enabled by CI/CD pipelines powered by GitHub with GitHub actions
- Collaborate closely with Product Owners to understand users' needs and translate them into well-engineered solutions
- Work with modern GitOps using ArgoCD
- Use DataDog to monitor services and investigate issues
- Participate in Communities of Practice to discuss technical challenges and set guidelines
- Engage in solid JUnit/Pact testing, with the goal of deploying to production within the first two weeks
What We Are Looking For
- Experience building server-side applications and detailed knowledge of relevant programming languages
- Sound knowledge of a backend framework such as Spring/Spring Boot
- Experience engineering scalable and reliable solutions
- Willingness to learn Java, as most services are written in Java
- Understanding of event-driven microservice architecture
- Experience with RESTful APIs and good API design
- Knowledge of PostgreSQL and experience with database management
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control systems like GitHub
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment and communicate technical ideas effectively
Nice to Have
- Experience with SNS + SQS and Kafka
- Familiarity with Docker, Terraform, EKS/Kubernetes
- Knowledge of DataDog and monitoring practices
- Participation in open-source projects or personal coding initiatives
