About the Role
Buffer is seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer - Growth Marketing to join its dynamic team. The role involves hands-on engineering work, building web experiences and systems that drive Buffer's growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in frontend development, with the ability to work across the full frontend scope, including React and modern web development. Collaborating closely with the marketing, design, and engineering teams, the successful candidate will lead growth engineering projects, implement new features, and drive experimentation and optimization.The Growth Marketing team at Buffer values pace and iteration, with a focus on shipping quickly, learning from real usage, and improving as they go. At the same time, the team prioritizes craft, paying attention to UX details and maintaining high standards. As a Senior Engineer, you will be working closely with key team members, including the Director of Marketing, Senior Design Engineer, and Senior Designer, to drive Buffer's growth marketing efforts forward.
Given the nature of the role, it's essential to be comfortable with both frontend and backend logic, including integrations with marketing tools, analytics, and tracking systems. Experience with SEO implementations, debugging tracking pipelines, and figuring out unknowns will be highly beneficial.
What You Will Do
- Lead growth engineering projects from concept to launch, working closely with marketing, design, and other engineers.
- Implement features and pages across buffer.com, including interactive tools, benchmarks, referral systems, and conversion flows.
- Drive the technical implementation behind marketing features, such as integrations with marketing tools, analytics, and tracking systems.
- Build systems and frameworks that enable the marketing team to move faster, including A/B testing infrastructure and programmatic page generation for SEO/AEO.
- Implement content management patterns and build reusable components to make future projects easier to ship.
- Drive experimentation and optimization by implementing A/B tests, optimizing conversion funnels, and helping the team learn faster through code.
- Set up experiments, validate results, and iterate based on what is learned, balancing speed with quality.
- Maintain integrations with the marketing technology stack, upgrade dependencies, optimize performance, and ensure accessibility.
- Participate in the on-call rotation and contribute to ongoing system health by fixing bugs, addressing security vulnerabilities, and making other improvements.
- Collaborate with other engineers to pair, review code, share knowledge, and help level up the approach to frontend work at Buffer.
What We Are Looking For
- Strong frontend foundations, including solid experience with React, TypeScript, and modern web development.
- Experience working across the stack when needed, including writing backend logic, building API routes, and connecting third-party integrations.
- Comfort with marketing or growth teams and familiarity with SEO, analytics, and tracking systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing pace and iteration while maintaining high standards.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to dive into unknown areas and figure out solutions.
- Experience with Google Sheets, GTM, and programmatic advertising is a plus.
- Familiarity with Next.js, though adaptability and curiosity are valued over specific stack experience.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
