## About the Role The Senior Engineering Manager at Twilio will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and high availability of the company's next-generation communications products. As part of the Platform Engineering organization, this position will manage a team of SRE engineers based in Ireland, focusing on developing standard solutions and practices for safe and consistent deployment and operation of Twilio's services. The role requires a strong customer focus, driving a culture that recognizes the importance of high availability and reliability for customer-facing services. This position will partner with Product Engineering teams globally to enable them to modernize their software stack and drive initiatives promoting operational readiness. As a senior leader, this role will report to the Platform Engineering leadership team and will be responsible for career development, coaching, and mentoring of junior engineers.
## What You Will Do - Lead a team of SRE engineers, providing guidance and support to ensure high availability and reliability of Twilio's services - Develop and implement technical roadmaps aligned with the Platform Engineering organization - Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects, and Product Engineering partners to drive service enhancements and modernization initiatives - Analyze metrics and Service Level Indicators to identify gaps in systems, services, and processes - Empower the team to participate actively in service operations, driving a culture of ownership and accountability - Communicate effectively with leaders, peers, and internal teams, articulating complex concepts and project plans - Contribute to technical deep dives and right-sizing of engineering investments - Drive initiatives that promote operational readiness across Product Engineering teams - Partner with global teams to drive consistency and standardization of practices
## What We Are Looking For - 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on reliability, scalability, and high availability - 3+ years of experience in leading engineering teams, with a strong track record of coaching and mentoring - Strong technical expertise in cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS - Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with global teams - Strong customer focus and understanding of the importance of reliability and availability - Experience with data analysis and metrics-driven decision making - Familiarity with Excel and other data analysis tools
## Nice to Have - Experience with artificial intelligence and machine learning - Knowledge of security and compliance principles - Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies - Experience with IT service management frameworks
