About the Role

The Senior Environmental Sustainability & ESG Manager is a critical position at Twilio, responsible for developing, maintaining, and evolving the company's environmental sustainability and ESG strategies. This role requires a deep understanding of business priorities, strategic recommendations, and the ability to drive alignment with enterprise goals. As a leader in the company, the Senior Environmental Sustainability & ESG Manager will work closely with the VP, Social & Environmental Impact, to promote sound ESG governance practices and educate leadership and the Board on emerging ESG developments.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in strategy development, governance, and leadership, with experience in benchmarking practices against peers and informing refinements. They will also have expertise in designing and executing implementation pathways to achieve GHG targets, including internal behavior or process changes, market-based instruments, and high-quality carbon offsets.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the development, maintenance, and long-term evolution of the company-wide environmental sustainability and ESG strategies
  • Benchmark practices against peers to inform refinements, redefine strategy, or create new enterprise-level approaches
  • Own the long-term oversight for Greenhouse Gas (GHG) target setting; design and execute implementation pathways to achieve targets
  • Develop and propose strategies for internal engagement on climate and ESG initiatives to build employee pride
  • Track applicable environmental and ESG regulations, standards, and frameworks and support their implementation
  • Manage existing compliance programs and stand up new, robust processes where gaps exist
  • Coordinate with and serve as a subject-matter resource to Legal, Technical Accounting, and Risk teams to support compliance readiness and responses
  • Oversee the project management of voluntary reports, assessing emerging trends, shaping narrative recommendations, and framing strategic considerations and decision options for leadership review
  • Direct the execution and periodic refresh of Climate Risk Assessments and Double Materiality Assessments as needed

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in environmental sustainability, ESG, or a related field
  • Strong background in strategy development, governance, and leadership
  • Experience with GHG target setting and implementation pathways
  • Knowledge of environmental and ESG regulations, standards, and frameworks
  • Excellent communication and project management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with Adjust and Excel

Nice to Have

  • Experience with carbon offsetting and renewable energy
  • Knowledge of sustainability reporting frameworks and standards
  • Familiarity with climate risk assessments and double materiality assessments
