About the Role
The Senior Financial Analyst I position at Nerdwallet is a critical role that involves serving as a strategic thought partner to the vertical, translating data into actionable insights that guide smarter business decisions. This position entails leading financial planning and modeling efforts, managing budgets, and tracking performance against key KPIs. The successful candidate will be a key player in optimizing investments, improving expense management, and shaping the financial narrative that fuels sustainable growth.As a Senior Financial Analyst I, you will be working closely with General Managers and cross-functional teams to apply strong finance and accounting principles to solve complex business challenges. This role requires a high degree of ownership, with the ability to lead projects and initiatives with minimal oversight. What You Will Do
- Lead financial planning and modeling efforts to guide business decisions
- Manage the vertical's budget in close partnership with General Managers
- Track performance against key KPIs to ensure alignment with Nerdwallet's annual plan
- Proactively identify risks and opportunities to optimize investments and improve expense management
- Develop and maintain financial models and forecasts
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex business challenges
- Contribute to strategic discussions and elevate outcomes through thoughtful analysis
- Mentor teammates and guide colleagues on financial best practices
- Participate in brainstorming sessions, leadership discussions, and industry events
- Establish KPIs, track and monitor new metrics
- Spearhead integration of newly acquired businesses
- Identify and propose performance improvement opportunities
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field
- 5+ years of financial planning and analysis experience with a proven track record in business partnering
- Prior experience in financial analysis, strategic and financial planning, building and maintaining financial models
- Strong financial modeling, forecasting, and scenario analysis experience
- Proven ability to identify and communicate business opportunities, risks, and insights in a fast-moving environment
- Experience in revenue analytics, margin analysis, and strategic financial planning
- Outstanding Excel skills and familiarity with FP&A tools and Looker
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

- Experience in managing and overseeing budgets across multiple departments
- Knowledge of financial reporting tools and infrastructure
- Familiarity with cloud-based financial systems
- Certification in finance or accounting, such as CPA or CFA
