Job Description

About the Role

As a Senior Financial Reconciliation Manager at Mercury, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity of our financial data. This is a high-stakes position that requires a unique blend of technical expertise, leadership acumen, and strategic vision. You will be responsible for owning reconciliation end-to-end, scaling our partner bank reconciliation operations, and architecting the future-state framework for Mercury as a chartered institution.

The reconciliation team is the backbone of our financial operations, and as the leader of this team, you will be expected to drive strategy and optimization within our BlackLine environment and reconciliation tooling. You will also be responsible for designing and operationalizing a robust reconciliation controls framework aligned with regulatory expectations.

Our ideal candidate is someone who pairs deep accounting rigor with strong operational instincts, systems thinking, and a genuine passion for building teams and scalable processes from the ground up. If you are a motivated and experienced financial professional looking to make a meaningful impact in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, this could be the role for you.

What You Will Do

  • Own reconciliation integrity across customer transactions spanning multiple payment rails and account types
  • Architect and implement the reconciliation structure for Mercury's de novo bank charter
  • Design and operationalize a robust reconciliation controls framework aligned with regulatory expectations
  • Lead and mentor a team of reconciliation analysts
  • Drive strategy and optimization within our BlackLine environment and reconciliation tooling
  • Use data to identify systemic improvements, eliminate manual processes, and enable automation at scale
  • Translate partner bank requests into clear internal execution plans
  • Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, Accounting, Risk, and Data Science to build scalable infrastructure
  • Feel confident when using data and intuition to make decisions in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, while demonstrating curiosity and a growth mindset
  • Be fully autonomous and find joy in driving efficiency

What We Are Looking For

  • 8+ years of experience in reconciliation, with at least 3+ years in banking, fintech, or reconciliation tooling environments
  • Experience optimizing data flows and automating manual reconciliation processes
  • Strong knowledge of payment rails including Fedwire, ACH, and card settlement and the reconciliation workflows they create
  • Demonstrated ability to build and implement control frameworks
  • Comfort collaborating across technical and non-technical stakeholders, including engineers and external partners
  • Proven people leadership experience, with a focus on coaching and developing teams
  • A builder mindset — energized by creating structure where it doesn’t yet exist
  • Systems thinking, operational rigor, and a bias toward action

Nice to Have

  • Experience with BlackLine or similar reconciliation tools
  • Knowledge of banking regulations and compliance requirements
  • Certification in accounting or a related field

Benefits and Perks

  • Competitive salary and equity package
  • Opportunity to work with a fast-growing and innovative fintech company
  • Collaborative and dynamic work environment
  • Professional development and growth opportunities
  • Flexible working hours and remote work options
  • Access to cutting-edge technologies and tools
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance and retirement plan
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Wellness and mental health support programs

How to Stand Out

  • Develop a deep understanding of payment rails and reconciliation workflows to stand out in your application.
  • Highlight your experience with BlackLine or similar reconciliation tools to demonstrate your technical skills.
  • Be prepared to discuss your approach to building and implementing control frameworks, and how you stay up-to-date with regulatory requirements.
  • Showcase your leadership experience and ability to coach and develop teams, as this is a key aspect of the role.
  • Research Mercury's company culture and values to demonstrate your enthusiasm for the company and the position.
  • Practice your problem-solving skills and be ready to provide examples of how you have used data and intuition to make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Consider including a portfolio or samples of your work to demonstrate your expertise in financial reconciliation and analysis.
