About the Role
The Senior Fraud and Abuse Operations Analyst plays a critical role in safeguarding Plaid's platform, ensuring the safety and integrity of its users and customers. As the first line of defense against fraud and abuse, this position requires a high level of expertise and experience in fraud operations, trust and safety, and incident response. The successful candidate will work closely with product and engineering teams to inform and improve fraud mitigation strategies, driving the development of effective solutions to prevent future incidents and minimize financial losses.The role entails a deep understanding of fraud typologies, tactics, techniques, and procedures used by bad actors, as well as the ability to translate external intelligence into actionable insights. The Senior Fraud and Abuse Operations Analyst will be responsible for responding to fraud and abuse events, conducting thorough investigations, and triaging incidents. This position requires a battle-tested mental model for balancing fraud mitigation vs. conversion, with the ability to calibrate and apply this model in the context of Plaid's business objectives under pressure.

What You Will Do
- Respond to fraud and abuse events, conducting thorough investigations and triaging incidents
- Support the abuse on-call rotation, directly protecting Plaid's users and customers
- Conduct threat modeling of abuse surfaces and survey external fraud trends, adversary techniques, tooling, and emerging threat vectors
- Partner with product and engineering teams to inform and improve fraud mitigation strategies
- Drive investigations and mitigate risks, proactively performing threat modeling and continuously surveying external fraud trends
- Support incident response, triaging and managing high-priority fraud and abuse events as internal incidents
- Collaborate with internal Legal, Compliance, Comms, and other risk management teams during incident triage
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders, making informed trade-off decisions
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of fraud typologies, tactics, techniques, and procedures used by bad actors
- Translate external intelligence into actionable insights, informing crucial decisions and strategies
- Act as a key operational partner to Consumer Risk and other product teams, providing vital insights and expertise
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in fraud/abuse operations, trust and safety, and/or incident response
- Deep knowledge of fraud typologies, tactics, techniques, and procedures used by bad actors
- Experience triaging fraud or related incidents, with tight containment deadlines
- Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with internal teams during incident triage
- Battle-tested mental model for balancing fraud mitigation vs. conversion
- Experience managing escalations and making informed trade-off decisions with multiple stakeholders
- Deep context about common mitigation strategies for fraud and abuse, with informed opinions about their relative pros and cons
- Experience translating fraud investigations and research into actionable detection signals, rules, and labeled datasets
- Ability to navigate dark and grey-web, assessing source credibility and translating external intelligence into actionable insights
