About the Role

Astrid Entertainment is seeking a Senior Gameplay Engineer to join its talented team of worldbuilders and game developers. As a Senior Gameplay Engineer, you will play a crucial role in developing multiplayer creative experiences that foster connection, problem-solving, and shared discovery. You will work closely with the design and engineering teams to prototype gameplay features, engineer systems, and implement features and tests in C++ and Blueprints.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for co-op games that offer players creative tools to craft, build, and shape environments. You will have a deep understanding of systemic design, rapid iteration of relevant technologies, and processes that enable this. As a Senior Gameplay Engineer, you will be responsible for championing engineering quality, planning, estimating, and prioritizing work, and sharing knowledge, mentoring, and supporting colleagues in your area of expertise.

What You Will Do

  • Engineer systems, implement features, and tests in C++ and Blueprints
  • Prototype gameplay features in collaboration with design and engineering teams
  • Identify and highlight potential problems and risks with proposed solutions
  • Share knowledge, mentor, and support colleagues in your area of expertise
  • Champion engineering quality, including code reviews, automated tests, and release processes
  • Plan, estimate, and prioritize work
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation
  • Collaborate with the team to develop and implement new features and technologies
  • Participate in code reviews and ensure high-quality code
  • Troubleshoot and optimize gameplay systems

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience developing video games
  • Solid knowledge of Unreal Engine
  • Proven experience engineering gameplay systems
  • Proven engineering and code design skills
  • Problem-solving, debugging, and optimization skills
  • Solid knowledge of C++
  • Experience with AI tools like Github Copilot
  • Technical communication skills
  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation
  • Experience with multiplayer game development
  • Familiarity with Steam and/or Epic Game Store

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Epic’s Gameplay Ability System (GAS)
  • Experience with development of systemic games (emergent mechanics, interlocking systems, simulation-driven worlds, sandbox or co-op titles)
  • Experience with peer-to-peer and/or client-server multiplayer
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
