About the Role

Mercury is seeking a highly skilled Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join its team, with the option to work remotely from anywhere in the United States or Canada, or from one of our offices in San Francisco, CA, New York, NY, or Portland, OR. As a pioneer in cloud infrastructure, you will be responsible for shaping the landscape of Mercury's cloud environment, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security. Your day-to-day will involve collaborating with the engineering team to design, implement, and manage our cloud infrastructure, leveraging the latest technologies to drive innovation.

The infrastructure team at Mercury is at the heart of the company's growth, and as a senior member, you will play a pivotal role in leading projects, mentoring team members, and driving the adoption of new technologies. You will work closely with the engineering organization to identify infrastructure needs, design solutions, and implement them, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.

What You Will Do

  • Design, implement, and manage Mercury's cloud infrastructure using AWS services such as EC2, RDS, IAM, Networking, Opensearch, and ECS.
  • Utilize Terraform for infrastructure as code to efficiently manage and provision cloud resources.
  • Develop and implement frameworks for using AI safely in our infrastructure, both for agents and users.
  • Employ monitoring and observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Opensearch, and OpenTelemetry to maintain high availability and monitor system health.
  • Manage code and automate deployments using GitHub and GitHub Actions.
  • Build our "Infrastructure Platform" to support the growing needs of the Engineering Organization.
  • Focus on building a platform that is AI-friendly while still usable for engineers.
  • Lead key infrastructure projects, break down complex initiatives, and define our infrastructure strategy through detailed RFCs and technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to identify infrastructure needs and design solutions.
  • Mentor and elevate team members, acting as a force multiplier for the engineering organization.

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience with AWS, including EC2, RDS, IAM, Networking, Opensearch, and ECS.
  • Extensive experience with observability and monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry, optimizing system performance and reliability.
  • Demonstrated ability in technical writing, with at least 3 years of experience creating detailed technical documentation, RFCs, and tech specs that clearly communicate complex ideas.
  • Experience leading infrastructure projects in regulated environments such as HITRUST or SOC2, ensuring compliance and security.
  • 3+ years of experience managing large-scale Terraform implementations, including the setup and maintenance of Terraform CI/CD pipelines.
  • 2+ years of experience writing code, with the ability to support the development of our Infrastructure Platform.
  • Experience mentoring and elevating team members.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with AI and machine learning technologies and their applications in infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with other cloud providers such as Azure or Google Cloud.
