About the Role

As a Senior Life Underwriter at Manulife, you will be part of a renowned team known for its thought leadership and innovative approach to underwriting complex files. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include conducting risk assessments, collaborating with sales and head office colleagues, and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external partners. What You Will Do

  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and classification according to Manulife's philosophy and standards.
  • Communicate and collaborate with sales and head office colleagues to provide competitive decisions to customers.
  • Maintain positive and effective relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Consistently deliver the best customer experience by making every interaction significant.
  • Align with consumer laws and regulations regarding risk classification, confidentiality, and disclosure.
  • Identify and propose solutions to problems and procedures related to the underwriter's work.
  • Utilize Excel and other tools to analyze data and make informed decisions.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure compliance and best practices.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.

What We Are Looking For

  • 3 years of underwriting experience with
    ,000,000+ Life signing authority.
  • Sales and relationship-focused mindset with a drive for earning business and continuing to earn business in this competitive market.
  • Working towards, or completion of, FALU, FLMI, and ACS designations.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, including physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, imaging, diagnostic testing, and treatments.
  • Strong knowledge of how non-medical risks impact mortality, including hazardous occupations, sports, avocations, and lifestyle.
  • Experience with financial reports and training in anti-money laundering practices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.

Nice to Have

  • Bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset, particularly for candidates in Québec.
  • Bilingual English and Mandarin, an asset.
  • 100,000+ CI authority.
  • University or college degree in a related discipline, such as medical, research, or financial.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Interest in representing the company via external presentations, panels, conferences, etc.
  • Experience in co-signing, referral reviews, mentoring, etc.
