About the Role
As a Senior Linux Site Reliability Engineer at Akamai Technologies, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and managing applications and infrastructure that support the company's Compute products and services. Your expertise in Linux systems administration and automation will be essential in driving operational excellence and improving the efficiency of the Database team. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including support, operations, and engineering, to investigate and troubleshoot complex problems and develop creative solutions.The Senior Linux SRE role is a key position within the Site Reliability team, responsible for providing support and mentorship to other engineers and defining requirements for new designs and standards. You will be expected to collaborate with various stakeholders to influence the product lifecycle and ensure that the company's mission is always at the forefront of your work.

What You Will Do
- Provide support and mentorship to other engineers within the department
- Define requirements as part of the product lifecycle to influence new designs and standards
- Collaborate with support, operations, and engineering teams to investigate and troubleshoot complex problems
- Improve system monitoring and analysis platforms to speed error detection and remediation
- Enhance performance and reliability of database and infrastructure systems
- Participate in on-call rotations to guide restoration and repair of service-impacting issues
- Develop and implement automation solutions to improve efficiency and reduce manual errors
- Work with various stakeholders to influence the product lifecycle and ensure alignment with business objectives
- Provide leadership and motivation to project teams and collaborate with other engineers to achieve common goals
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for improvement
What We Are Looking For
- A degree in Computer Science or a related field
- Experience gathering and analyzing observability metrics (e.g., Prometheus/Grafana)
- Experience defining alert postures to cover informational through critical alerts
- Knowledge of TCP/IP networking and Linux systems administration
- Expert-level experience in a DevOps, Development, or SysAdmin role, with both bare metal and virtualized environments
- Experience with MySQL, SaltStack for configuration management, and architecting software and infrastructure at scale
- Experience with automation and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash)
- Strong communication, mentorship, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in alignment with strategic business initiatives and coordinate the work of other engineers
- Strong opinions on technology and software design to bring to the table
Nice to Have
- Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
- Knowledge of security principles and practices (e.g., encryption, access control)
- Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems (e.g., Git)
- Certification in Linux administration or a related field
- Experience with machine learning or artificial intelligence technologies
