About the Role

The Senior Manager - BSA/AML & Sanctions Modeling and Analytics role at Mercury is a critical position that requires a unique blend of analytical skills, financial crime compliance knowledge, and experience with modeling and analytics. As a key member of the BSA/AML & Sanctions compliance team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing financial crime detection models that help protect Mercury, its customers, and the broader financial ecosystem from bad actors and harmful activities. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including risk strategy, engineering, and compliance, to build and oversee models that effectively detect and mitigate financial crimes risks.

Mercury is a fintech company that provides banking services to ambitious entrepreneurs, and as such, it is essential that we have a robust financial crime compliance program in place. The BSA/AML & Sanctions compliance team serves as the oversight function for the overall AML & Sanctions program, and this role will play a critical part in enhancing our financial crime detection models.

What You Will Do

  • Build and maintain financial crime detection models, including transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and customer risk scoring models
  • Develop and execute the modeling and analytics roadmap supporting Mercury's Financial Crimes Compliance program
  • Partner with senior Compliance, Product, and Data leaders to translate regulatory requirements into effective analytical frameworks
  • Champion analytical excellence, model governance, and innovation in AML and Sanctions detection approaches
  • Design, implement, and maintain statistical and machine learning models for transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, customer risk scoring, and alert optimization
  • Ensure models and rules have appropriate documentation in line with Mercury's Model Risk Management framework
  • Evaluate and tune existing detection models and rules to reduce false positives while maintaining regulatory rigor
  • Develop data-driven methods to identify new typologies, emerging risks, and evolving financial crime trends
  • Partner with Model Risk Management to support validation and performance monitoring of models to ensure compliance with internal and regulatory standards

What We Are Looking For

  • 5-8 years of experience leading modeling and analytics functions for financial crimes compliance
  • Strong analytical background with experience in data analysis, statistical modeling, and machine learning
  • Experience with financial crime compliance programs, including BSA/AML and Sanctions
  • Ability to build and scale the modeling and analytics function, including hiring, establishing norms, and delivering excellence along the roadmap
  • Excellent technical writing skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into plain English
  • Experience with Model Risk Management and regulatory requirements

Nice to Have

  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms, such as AWS or Google Cloud
  • Knowledge of programming languages, such as Python or R
  • Experience with data visualization tools, such as Tableau or Power BI
  • Certification in a related field, such as CFE or CCEP
