About the Role
As a Senior Manager of Engineering at NerdWallet, you will be responsible for leading a high-ownership team of engineers, product managers, and designers in building and operating the company's AI-forward platforms. You will be the driving force behind the development of innovative financial advisory experiences, leveraging your expertise in AI and automation to accelerate the team's output. Your team will own the lead generation marketplace, content rendering infrastructure, and systems supporting wealth management firms' business and website.The role reports to the Senior Director, General Manager, and will require close collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive business outcomes. You will be expected to navigate organizational complexity with confidence, building consensus and moving initiatives through cross-functional processes.

What You Will Do
- Lead a small team of engineers, product managers, and designers in building and operating AI-forward platforms
- Serve as a hands-on technical force multiplier, architecting systems, prototyping with emerging AI tools, and modeling great building practices
- Identify and deploy AI and automation technologies to accelerate the team's output
- Own the roadmap alongside Product and business partners, translating business goals into focused technical strategies
- Drive pragmatic engineering decisions, choosing the right tools for the job and balancing speed and stability
- Navigate organizational complexity with confidence, building consensus and moving initiatives through cross-functional processes
- Cultivate a culture of curiosity, ownership, and continuous learning within the team
- Coach and develop engineers and product managers, providing direct and useful feedback
- Ensure systems meet availability, performance, and security standards with a practical approach
What We Are Looking For
- 6+ years of software engineering experience, with meaningful time spent building and shipping in a startup or early-stage environment
- 3+ years of experience managing an engineering team, ideally a cross-functional one including product and/or design
- 3+ years of experience in a Staff-level engineering position
- Hands-on full-stack software engineering skills with experience in modern web systems
- Demonstrated history of building and deploying AI-powered systems or integrating LLMs into production products
- Strong business acumen, with an understanding of ROI, user impact, and revenue
- Proven ability to operate effectively within a larger organization without losing the startup bias for action
- Experience building scalable, reliable systems with a pragmatic approach to architecture and technical debt
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders

- Experience in FinTech, regulated industries, or consumer financial products
- Track record of building and deploying AI-powered systems in a production environment
